The Asian study tour, as part of the Asian Management Issues course, takes on the theme of ‘A Living Case Study’. In line with the learning outcomes of the course, students take in the historical, cultural and business aspects of an Asian city.

In recent years the study tour to Singapore has taken in visits to giant technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, HP and Visa Corporation, along with a range of the city-state’s cultural institutions.

I really loved the study tour to Singapore. It was my first time there. It was a really immersive experience over seven days. There were so many highlights. I probably got the most out of the trip to Visa Corporation. It was great to talk to people about different aspects of business there. The Asian Management Issues course was about comparing Singapore and Vietnam. You hear about Singapore being a multicultural city, but it really is. It’s such a blended and welcoming city.

Going on exchange is a unique experience. When you study in different places, you get to see the world in a different perspective. It was my first time to the US. At San Francisco State University, I didn’t have any difficulty with the teaching method. The way I studied there was very similar with RMIT Vietnam. San Francisco has great ethnic diversity. I made a lot of friends from different countries.

Tran Kiet LongCurrent studentWent on exchange to San Francisco State University, United States

Choose from more than 200 partner universities around the world to go on exchange for one or two semesters.

When you go on exchange, you will continue to pay your tuition fees to RMIT in Vietnam, not the host institution.

Combine intensive study with summer-time travel by joining a short course or study tour in Europe.

In recent years, students have joined courses of one to four weeks in duration at partner institutions such as EBS University (Germany), Aarhus University (Denmark), ESSCA Budapest (Hungary) and Kedge Business School (France), or have taken part in study tours to RMIT in Barcelona (Spain).

Following their studies, many have gone travelling around Europe with their new international friends.

If you join a European summer course, you will continue to pay your tuition fees to RMIT in Vietnam.

Semester exchange

With the support of RMIT, I made my first visit to Europe as part of a summer course. The journey was a chain of surprises! Kedge is a well-known business school with world-class professors. As I was writing these sentences upon my return to Vietnam, I received incoming messages from my dearest classmates from around the world. I made friends with people from many countries. These connections are the most valuable things that I take from this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Industry engagementThroughout your studies, you will have the chance to collaborate with industry partners and make lasting connections with working professionals. Industry partners:

take part in many classroom activities, serving as guest speakers and providing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) projects for students to solve real-world business problems;

host work placements as part of the Postgraduate Internship course, which provides a unique opportunity for students with little work experience.

Many leading companies and organisations perform an advisory role to ensure our programs are relevant and up to date. These include:

As a new business in need of more exposure for one of our most important business units, we saw the opportunity to gather ideas ‘outside the box’ by engaging RMIT students. We set out potential channels and communication messages for them to help us reach decision makers within the event-organising space. The students did mystery shopping and stakeholder interviewing. Their presentation was interesting, as it dissected the business issue at hand. They were quite spot-on in their thinking process.

Previously, I hadn’t realised that culture could be so important in terms of our success or failure. In my MIB classes, I have found out that cultural understanding can make a big difference for a company. Through case studies in the course Managing Across Cultures, I’ve learnt that doing business in another country is not about forcing people to do whatever you want. Instead, it’s about taking a skillful approach to gradually changing people’s mindset and behaviour.

A sample of electives in the program:

I joined the MIB program to have a more professional framework in managing my team and managing my job and my company. Two of the valuable things that I gained in the MIB were: how to manage across functions; and how to lead a team with people of diverse backgrounds. My classmates came from different countries and different industries. So we had very different points of view. That perfectly matched my scope of work as a manager.

The modern global trade system is experiencing a period of greater turmoil and upheaval than we’ve seen at any time since its founding in the aftermath of the Second World War. Companies in literally every sector will have to understand trade issues and be able to connect the dots between trade headlines and their businesses in a deeper and more sophisticated way than ever before.
