The purpose of Public University to seek academic excellence of each and every student, to perfect its professors, to train its students for them to fit into the labor market, to carry out technological and scientific investigations, is not contradictory at all but complementary to its social responsibility to cater for the needs of national and regional development. Public Universities seek redistribution of knowledge and improvement of living standards of community as a whole.

IntroductionWe present, through this Postgraduate Students Guide, a short overview about curriculum offered at National University of Lanús.As per our Statute, University has a primary mission: “To contribute through production and distribution of knowledge and scientific- technological innovations to economic, social and cultural development of the region aiming to improve living standards and strengthening democratic values within society, combining universal knowledge with knowledge acquired from our community.”It is, within this frame, that the postgraduate offer is organized in Seminars, Specializations, Masters and Doctorates, which are meant to meet the mission of the University producing socially relevant knowledge with outstanding theoretical and scientific academic level.Academic offer is organized around the four Departments within which each career is registered. In each case, the present Guide presents in a systematic way the Career Objectives, Study Plans, Graduate Profile and contact information.”

The National University of Lanús, brief Historical Review.The National University of Lanús was created by Act 24496 June 7TH 1995. In September of the same year National Government appointed Ana Jaramillo, Sociology Ph.D as Rector and Organizer of the University. In December 1995, the premises located at “29 de Septiembre” St. were transferred as per Acts 24750 and 24751. The Campus has a surface of 12 hectares being one of the most important green spaces within the area.

As Rector Ana Jaramillo said: “National University of Lanús was once a dream, now it is a reality. We all built it. We keep on building it every day. A collective and supportive project meant to fulfill its social responsibility of forming professionals with the highest degree of academic excellence. Intellectuals, technicians and citizens, working alongside the community, making their best effort to improve living standards.”

Professional Outlook

A Master’s degree in Methodology of Scientific Research is, nowadays, properly adequate due to the growing need of skilled professionals within the labor area. Professionals who can actively participate in scientific research, either by taking part in interdisciplinary teams, formulating projects or by assessing designs and work programmes of other teams, or by enriching educational activities. In order to effectively perform these activities it is necessary to have appropriate training which is not generally included in university courses. Such training must include the reflection about characteristics of scientific knowledge as well as

about the methods of production of knowledge in its interaction with the rest of social practices which form our particular history.

The subject of study is the set of remarkable knowledge in the history of philosophy with special emphasis in contemporary practical philosophy.The Doctorate in Philosophy has the following objectives:1. To contribute to awareness-raising, within professional environment, of the importance about the assumption of philosophical perspectives when considering current socio-cultural of in our country and the world.

2. To promote critical and creative thinking in professionals and within community that should be introduced in current political organization.

SyllabusThe Postgraduate Career of Doctorate in Philosophy in UNLa encompasses different requirements for graduates of philosophical careers and for graduates of other careers. Graduates of philosophical careers must compulsorily comply with the following requirements:a) To pass a Thesis seminar conducted at UNLa or any other seminar which, eventually, the Doctorate Commission shall deem equivalent.b) To pass Specific Seminars determined by the Doctorate Commission pursuant to the background of the doctoral candidate. Minimum 2 (two) seminars, maximum 6 (six) seminars. Two (2) of the specific seminars must be attended to at UNLa.c) In addition to the aforementioned requirements graduates of non-philosophical careers must pass the following subjects:
