As distance students, there is a full range of support available including distance library services and online learning support. This programme is designed to provide Registered Nurses and Registered Health Professionals with an integrated, supported theoretical and practical programme of study to ensure the development of specialty knowledge and skills required of a health professional working in the New Zealand context. This two paper programme can be completed over two years. All papers are 17 weeks in duration and each paper is a combination of online and short block tutorials delivered at our Porirua campus. PAPER INFORMATION HSC8606: Dual Disability (45 credits) This paper offers students the opportunity to extend their knowledge and understanding of dual disability (DD) care within a holistic framework. The purpose is to expand the student’s ability to relate specialist knowledge and key concepts of care for people with a dual disability (intellectual disability and mental health). Each student will explore their own understanding of self and others in relation to working alongside the intellectual disability population. Modules covered include: > The socio political context of New Zealand > Psychopathology/models of care > Legislation > Professional practice CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Work completed as part of this programme may contribute evidence for use in Professional Development Recognition Programmes (PDRP). Successful graduates may also gain credits towards Master’s studies. QUALIFICATION Papers are NZQA accredited at Level 8 and approved by Nursing Council of New Zealand.
