THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINESPOSTER ANALYSIS

Within this poster from the film ‘the place beyond the pines’ we

denote that there is an image that uses its darkness of the

background to fade into another image. This could suggest that the

two images are very similar in a way as they could have the same

meaning inferring that the people at the top are the main characters

within the film that match with the bottom image as that could be a

main scene within the film.

In the top image we see three people looking at the same focal point

which is to our left. Th shots used are all close ups of their faces

showing us how unhappy they are as they are not smiling witch

could connote that they could all cause each other pain. In contrast

to this it could also tell us that what they are meant to be looking at

is the same thing that has upset them all.

The images used are very dark and gloomy which could suggest that

pathetic fantasy to us as the dark sky could suggest that something

dark and bad is going to happen to one or maybe all the main

characters in the film. We get the impression of this as the bottom

image which is a long shot showing us a dark street with one bright

light which is the bank. This is in our focal point through the golden

mean as we begin to focus on the bank and the main character.

On the bottom image we see that there is no one else with the

character as he is on his bike which could suggest that he is lonely or

in contrast looking for an escape from things that has happened.

However, when you look deeper into the image you see that he is

looking at the sign which could be telling otherwise, such as, plotting

something bad which may be seen in the film.
