CHENNAI: The J&K Tourism Department has received aprestigious award in the category of ‘Best Adventure TourismDestination and Eco-Tourism Destination’ at a 3-Day eventorganized by Indian International Travel Mart, Chennai , anofficial press note issued here read. Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who wasrepresenting the J&K State received the award. During the Travel Mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decoratedattracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents. Over the past three years, the Department of Tourism has beentrying to tap the South Indian market. Many travel agents fromthe J&K State also participated in the Travel Mart who informedthe visitors about the tourism potential of the state. They alsomade on spot booking for autumn season this year. The Department of Tourism displayed pictures of different touristresorts at their stalls besides distributing publicity material of thestate’s tourism products. The visitors expressed willingness to visit Kashmir in autumn andalso next year after being convinced about the securityarrangements put in place by the state government. Director Tourism Kashmir, Mahmood A Shah said the departmentis trying to tap the South Indian tourist market who are very keento visit J&K. “South India is a good market for Kashmir. Our participation intravel marts is helping the state tourism as we are trying to dispelthe misconception among the travellers about Kashmir,” saidShah. Receives adventure & eco-tourism destination award

Chennai, July 17:Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department has participated in the 3-day Indian International Travel Mart Chennai which began on July 15 and is culminating today. J&K alsoreceived Best Adventure Tourism Destination and Eco-Tourism Destination awards during the award night held on Sunday. Deputy Director Tourism (Publicity) Peerzada Zahoor who was representing the J&K State received the award. During the travel mart, J&K stall which was beautifully decorated attracted huge visitors mostly locals and travel agents who expressed willingness to promote Kashmir amongtravellers. Over the past three years, the department of tourism has been trying to tap the south Indian market and participated in the travel marts held in this region. The visitors at the J&K stall mostly made inquiries about situation in Kashmir after the attack on Amarnath yatra who were informed about safety measures taken by the stategovernment. Many travel agents from the J&K state also participated in the travel mart who also informed the visitors about the tourism potential of the state. They also made on spot bookingfor autumn season this year and also for next year. The department of tourism has displayed the pictures of the different tourist resorts at their stall besides distributing the publicity martial of the state’s tourism products. The visitors expressed willingness to visit Kashmir in autumn and also next year after being convinced about the security arrangements put in place by the state government. Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah said the department trying to tap the south Indian market who are very keen to visit J&K. “South Indian is also a good market for Kashmir. Our participation in travel marts is helping the state tourism as we are trying to dispel the misconception among the travellersabout Kashmir,” said Shah. He said tourism department wants to promote Kashmir among pilgrim tourism also. “We have been getting good tourist flow for past few months which is a result of our promotional efforts in travel trade fairs. We will organize more such road shows in theseplaces,” said Shah, During the travel mart, the department of tourism also interacted with the travel agents who are willing to organize tours for schools and business houses. “We got good huge response in this international travel mart. Many travel agents made on spot bookings also after they were convinced about the safety measures taken by thestate government for the tourists in Kashmir,” said Peerzada Zahoor. Most of the Indian states, union territories besides tourism boards, hoteliers, airlines, tour operators, online travel companies from the country and other countries participate intravel trade shows making it the largest networking platform for the travel industry.
