Conference Overview Message from Program Director
Dear Distinguished Readers, We are delighted to have brought you the 4th annual NAPST International Sleep Conference which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 2-3 July 2011. It was a great success for everyone involved and yet another milestone for NAPST and the Sleep Medicine field in Asia. With a significant number of nearly 160 attendees from more than 16 countries, we were hosted nicely at the Concorde Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. For NAPST organization, a non-profit educational network, our goal was achieved in enabling a wide educational format for many in this burgeoning field in Asia. In preparing for this conference, we worked in close consultation with relevant local medical societies, international speakers, and those from Industry. The topics were evaluated and then incorporated into a meeting agenda and discussed at the 2-day conference, with many pertinent questions being raised by the audience. A meeting of this kind provides the opportunity to network, compare, and evaluate the level and awareness of Sleep Disorders diagnosis and treatment in the various countries represented. The importance of this is so that best practices can be shared and taken back to respective countries and Sleep Labs. Over the 2 days, we heard from 13 key speakers representing various disciplines of medicine, all with the common purpose of extrapolating key issues of Sleep Disorders, many of which we may not have been aware of. Moving ahead, we must bear in mind that those who benefit from the education of these forums are not only the attendees --- but also those patients who will eventually receive better care. That, above all, should inspire us to move the field of Sleep Medicine in Asia forward. Yours faithfully, Glenn Roldan, RPSGT Program Director Network of Asia Pacific Sleep Technologists
