Second: “What else is on offer?”

Third: “Realistically, will I make the grades they require?”

Entry requirements

• Universities will make an offer based on; UCAS Tariff (e.g. 120 points) Exam grades (ABC) at A2 Combination of both (120 points including a B in English)

• Where universities make an offer on grades (AAB) they usually want those grades and will not accept a different combination equating to the same number of points.

• Some universities will also accept AS grades as contributing towards their points offer.

A gap year• A gap year offers the opportunity to gain skills and experiences, while

giving time to reflect and focus on what to do next.

• A productive gap year can be valuable on a CV – many employers/ universities value the experiences students have gained if they’ve actively managed their time, set themselves goals, and stretched themselves.

• Admissions tutors know that some students may take a little time to adjust to studying again, but many former gap year students can be more focused and responsible

Deferred entry

• Deferred entry; tick a box in your UCAS application to carry an offer over to start it in the following academic year.

• If you decide you would like a ‘gap year’ after applying to university then the student needs to contact the universities directly.

• Employers / universities procedure will vary
