Reversing modernisation of women’s roles in the 1920s

Increasing the birth-rate and women devoting themselves to childbearing

Cross of German motherhood, propaganda, divorce was encouraged if a couple were infertile, 1943 marriage law p. 296, welfare schemes, improved maternity, restrictions on contraception and abortion, Lebensborn programme was when women went to have sex with SS officers to create more strong aryan babies

Birth rate started to decline in the late 1930s – the initial increase may have been due to economic recovery than Nazi policies

Increase suitable marriages Marriage loans introduced, not allowed to marry racially unpure, had to get a fitness to marry certificate

Divorce increased after 1938

Restricted employment, if male and female applicants were equal for civil service and teachers from October 1933 the man had to be given preference, not allowed to be judges or lawyers, only 10% of women allowed to enrol at university

Women worked more in the build up to and during WWII as there was a huge demand for Labour. Not that many women were actually forced out of jobs.
