Our volunteer opportunities have continued to grow! In May, we started working at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Some of our duties include cleaning, stocking shelves, and unloading trucks. We are also learning how to bag items for sale and use a pricing gun. We have been able to work at the ReStore on Mondays and as we learn the duties we hope to also volunteer our time on Tuesdays. If your business needs any help or you know of a business that is looking for volunteers, please contact us!

PCS LIFE SKILLS TRACT- ENCOURAGING CHOICE

OUT AND ABOUT

A few months ago we added discussing a Hot Topic into our morning social time. Each group has a day during the week that they pick a topic related to our theme or charity of the month. They also share information read in the news. This time is giving the groups the opportunity to learn how to research topics and then decide what information is important to share with the rest of the center. Everyone seems to enjoy the time and we are all learning quite a bit from the discussions.

Every Thursday we have been invited to Twin Rivers to help during their Bingo time. Our responsibilities include game setup, support and clean up after the game. During the bingo game we have the opportunity to help the residents of the nursing home play the game. We also enjoy spending time socializing while we play!

PCS BUSINESS BUZZ- GETTING TO KNOW BUSINESS LEADERS IN OUR COMMUNITY

I had the chance to go to Pizza Hut and talk with Holley Karens. Holley is the manager there. She told me that Pizza Hut first opened in 1958. Pizza Hut opened here in Defiance in the early 1980’s. The Defiance Pizza Hut employs about 30 people and they are always hiring for most positions. In Defiance the best selling pizza is the large pepperoni pizza. My favorite pizza is the cheese pizza and Holley told me she also enjoys that kind. I think I would enjoy working at Pizza Hut washing dishes or folding their pizza boxes. Holley told me that could always be a possibility. Article written by: Charlie Carpenter
