Developingcollaboration into

new services –the long game

Barchester Healthcare and the Trust began

working together in a collaborative way in

May 2008. A formal Board, led by MikeCooke and Chief Executive of BarchesterHealthcare, Mike Parsons, was established tosupport different projects and servicedevelopments based on the quality, innovation, productivity and prevention agenda.

Over the last year a number of excitingprojects have been developed. These include:

• Joint funding of a new Chair in Dementiawith The University of Nottingham. TomDening was appointed in late 2012 and hispost is helping to create a 'centre ofexcellence' in dementia research as part ofthe overall development of the MentalHealth Institute.

• Opening of the Portland Suite in Worksopto support people with enduring mentalhealth needs.

• Shared leadership development, including anew opportunity for people within bothorganisations to exchange roles and spend a'week in the life of'.

February 2013 saw the official opening ofForest Hospital in Mansfield. Mike Cooke andMike Parsons opened the 50 bed flagshipfacility for people under the age of 65 withworking age dementia, alcohol related braininjury and Huntingtons Disease. The Hospitalprovides high quality intensive andrehabilitative care for people and their families, from Nottinghamshire and beyond, affected bythe illnesses, with a focus on personalisationand community living. The Hospital is run byBarchester but has a modern matron and otherstaff seconded from the Trust working in it – a truly integrated service.

The two organisations have also workedtogether in developing a new nursing homewhich will support older people and peoplewith dementia in Newark which will workwith the community team. The facility is dueto open in June/July 2013.

The next exciting programme of work will bediscussed at the annual review in May.

This really is a team approach with a growingjoint prospectus.

Konica Minolta East: working in partnershipto deliver cost efficientprint solutionsKonica Minolta East has beenproviding print, copy and scanningcapable devices to NottinghamshireHealthcare for many years and ourrelationship with the Trust hasalways been based on a partnershipas opposed to that of just a supplierand customer.

During the last 12 months, KonicaMinolta has been assisting theTrust to realise the potential of itsPrint Strategy – a project whichaims to provide the Trust’sworkforce with a modern, managed, reliable, cost efficientand right sized print, copy andscan fleet.

Alongside the Trust’s I.Tdepartment and its PrintRelationship Manager,Dominick Ferguson, Konicahas deployed a new fleet ofprint equipment andattendant print managementtechnologies at DuncanMacmillan House, MillbrookMental Health Unit, ArnoldLodge and Rampton Hospital.Staff at these sites now benefitfrom a centrally controlledprint solution, enablingthem to print from anydevice using a personalelectronic print card.

Beth Mobbs-White, CPAAdministrator at DuncanMacmillan House said: “Myrole requires me to do a lot of printingand the system is always reliable. It isparticularly convenient that I can scan, print and copy from a number ofprinters in the Trust.”

As ever we look forward to continuingour commitment to supportNottinghamshire Healthcare in theforthcoming year. The year ahead forus as the Trust’s print partner will be

an exciting one. We look forward toworking with the Trust to supportplanning and wider deployments ofthese technologies. It is envisaged thatthe next 12 months will be spentassisting the Trust to grow and developits print strategy to support the everchanging needs of its staff. This willultimately deliver a more modern and

robust fleet of printequipment for staff, whilstmaking significant savingsfor the Trust.

Finally, we would like to thank all Truststaff for their support and patienceduring the rollout of these printerswithout which it would not have beensuch a success.
