SCHOOL SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM’S REPORT Be an Eagle in your life, face the challenges and never give up… As the end of the term is fast approaching, just a reminder that student reports will be sent home next Friday 29th June. These reports are an indication of your child’s achievements throughout the past six months. Our teachers have been assessing students according to the Board of Studies outcomes, which allow two years for students to progress through each stage. All children need encouragement and praise to be confident and successful learners. Home and school partnerships are the key to improvement. Please take this opportunity to share and celebrate the achievements of your child/ren for their first two terms of school this year. Our classroom teachers are looking forward to sharing your child’s learning and growth with you at our Parent/Teacher Interviews in Week 10. Yrs 3-6 are on Wednesday 3rd July and K-2 on Tuesday 4th July. All Parent Teacher online bookings close on Monday 1st July at 8:00pm so if you haven’t booked a time, please do this as soon as possible. Just a friendly reminder that the last day of term is Friday 5th July. Students return to school on Tuesday 23rd July and continue to wear their full winter school uniform. World Refugee Day

Thursday 20th, June 2019 is World Refugee Day. On thisday we honour the spirit and courage of millions of refugees

worldwide. World Refugee Day is dedicated to buildingawareness and empathy towards the challenges and strugglesRefugees face every-day. Many refugees have lost theirfamilies, homes, their people and are forced to flee theirhomelands. We acknowledge the resilience, strength andvaluable contributions refugees make to our communitiesglobally.

In class, students will continue to build awareness byparticipating in activities reflecting on Refugee experiences andchallenges, inspiring empathy and inclusivity.

Technology Update - EduTECH 2019

In keeping with our goal to inspire the creators of tomorrowand learn all about the latest offerings in the Education andTechnology space, Mrs Fiona Gracie; Mrs Rosemary Mlinaricand several members of staff from the Create Team, attendedthe EduTECH 2019 Expo at the International Convention Centrein Sydney on the 6th-7th June. Some of the highlights of theExpo for staff were meeting Sir Ken Robinson, the world’selite thinker on creativity and innovation, attend a range ofinformative seminars on integrating Digital Technology tools intothe classroom, pedagogy and engaging students in the 3rdMillennium.

Staff attended various seminars provided by Google Education;Microsoft; TeachMeet and visited a range of hands-onworkshops involving Lego and Robotics. Numerous teachingresources, educational software and virtual reality applications;podcasting/radio and 3Dimensional Printing equipment wereexplored by staff. All staff who attended, look forward to sharingtheir experiences and technological knowledge with colleagues.

Littering In Parklea Is Rising At AnAlarming Rate!

The Student Government Team has noticedan increased amount of rubbish being leftaround the school this term. We are advisingboth parents and students to be mindful of where your rubbishgoes and to use the bins provided. Multicultural Perspectives Public SpeakingCompetition Local Finals

Congratulations to the following contestants who representedour school at the Local Multicultural Perspectives PublicSpeaking Competition Finals at Jasper Road Public School onWednesday 12th June:

At the competition, each student had to present theirMulticultural Perspectives speech followed by an impromptuspeech on a given topic. Stage 2’s impromptu topic was“Dreams” and Stage 3’s impromptu topic was “Next Steps”.We are very proud of their achievements.

A special congratulations goes to Eva who won the Stage2 local finals. She will now go on and represent our schoolat the Regional Multicultural Perspectives Public SpeakingCompetition in August.

Debating

On Monday 17th June, Dhruv, Harry, Shruti and Ava travelled toToongabbie Public School with Mrs Cliff to attend the secondround of the Premier's Debating Challenge. Team Parklea werearguing against the topic “All School Work Should beCompleted on Computers”. Congratulations to these studentswho won their first debate against Toongabbie Public School.

Perkins Cake Stall

On Wednesday the 5th of June we held the Perkins Cake Stall.The student government representatives were responsible forrunning the cake stall which included setting up, selling thecakes and packing up at the end.

A huge thank you to all the students and parents who helped atthe stall or brought in a sweet treat. Together we were able toraise $786 which will go towards resources for the school. Welook forward to the cake stall next term.

What’s Living in Kindergarten?

In Term 2, Kindergarten have been learning about “LivingThings” in Science. We have been investigating living andnon-living things and the basic needs which living things needto survive. As part of our Science investigations we areextremely lucky to be raising baby chickens for 2 weeks. Theyhave just started hatching and will continue to hatch over thenext few days and we can’t wait to look after them.

Our chickens could possibly be available for rehoming nextThursday. If any families are interested please see akindergarten teacher for more information.
