Scope of Position: At the Erwin, TN manufacturing facility, the Engineering Manager is responsible for manufacturing process improvements, system design, new and rebuild equipment specification development and acquisition, continuous improvement, safety and ergonomic design, and equipment qualifications for the Ball or Roller Plants. This position will lead new and existing manufacturing technology projects, champion core competency teams, and standardization of processes. It will also provide support to all areas of the business unit (Engineering - process or development; Manufacturing; Quality; etc.) where manufacturing technology expertise is required, including build support and customer initiatives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manage existing process/ product development projects and coordinate activities with various internal & external customers. Develop manufacturing process designs and coordinate with tooling and equipment sources for construction & validation. Drive standardization throughout plant by use of core competency teams, benchmarking, process standards and equipment checklists. Utilize GD&T to review assembly, component designs and details to verify manufacturing feasibility. Support the Lean Manufacturing culture with short and long-term Continuous Improvement strategies and activities that develop, evaluates, and drives improvement in-process methods and procedures. Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency for existing and new projects while embodying lean manufacturing principles Plan capacity and strategy development for core processes. Create / participate in development of design and process FMEA’s. Work with tooling sources to verify tool and / or part construction. Assist with capital and tooling acquisitions, analysis and strategies.

ENGINEERING MANAGER

Lead capital projects including planning, budgeting, procurement, implementation and analyzing results.

Assist manufacturing in design and applications of gages and fixtures. Provides grinding technical direction to support functions, including shop floor

and quality assurance personnel. Support Cost Estimator with quotes, designs, VA/VE initiatives and technical

presentations. Provide technical support and assistance to the Manufacturing and Quality

Assurance staff as required. Keep abreast of emerging market technologies and discover methods to

streamline department processes. Create, review, and maintain documentation required to implement print and

customer requirements into documented procedures, including work instructions, and monitoring check sheets for operating processes.

Develops and tracks metrics related to improvement activities and promotes standard processes, improved flow, waste elimination, and support management for daily improvement activities.

Support and adhere to NN, Inc. EH&S, policies and procedures. Support TS16949 and other applicable procedures and policies. Ability to travel in support of job function (plants, customers, suppliers etc.)

Some overseas travel may be required.

Experience and Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. A minimum of Ten years’ Manufacturing Engineering work experience is

required. Automotive, ISO9000/ TS16949 experience is preferred. Program/project management experience required; leadership role preferred. Extensive experience in tool and manufacturing process development with

knowledge of CAD and functional expertise in application of GD&T required.

Critical Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in all relevant manufacturing processes; ability to troubleshoot/diagnose problems in each step of the process.

Process/application knowledge of processes currently utilized in Manufacturing (i.e. machining, grinding, honing, tumble & polish, surface finish, heat treat, packaging).

Working knowledge and application of Continuous Improvement Tools.

ENGINEERING MANAGER

Possess hands on technical knowledge of machine design, tooling, fixtures and machine elements.

An understanding of CNC machining & programming, OD & ID grinding, and honing.

Knowledge and understanding of metal working and manufacturing processes. Knowledge and understanding of Fixture design, build and integration. Knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerencing. Proficiency with PC applications including CAD and computer based

engineering tools, spreadsheets, word processors, databases, presentation and flow charting software.

Excellent interpersonal, managerial, and time management skills. Eye for detail – Plans and organizes tactics for improvements at work. Leadership presence – Possess the ability to interest and convince others when

changes are required. Presentation and technology leading skills, results-oriented person. Ability to demonstrate exceptional analytical, written and oral communication

skills, as well commonly used software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
