Introduction :-POSDCORB is a acronym widely
used in the field of management & public administration that reflects the classic view of administrative management. It first appeared in a 1937 staff paper by LUTHER GULICK & LYNDALL URWICK.
PLANNINGDefinition :-
“ Planning bridges the gap from where we are to where we want to go. It makes it possible for things to occur which would not otherwise happen”.

Meaning :-Planning is the process of thinking about & organizing the activities required to achieve a desired goal. Planning involves the creation &
maintenance of a plan. Whereas planning predicts what the future should look like. Planning deals not only physical development but also social and economical improvement of our society. Good planning gives meaningful decision for the long term.
Importance :-The importance of planning are as follows,O - Planning provides directionsO - Reduces the risk of uncertaintyO - Reduces overlapping & wasteful activitiesO - Promotes innovative ideasO - Facilitates decision makingO - Standards for controlling
Process :-The process of planning are
1.) SETTING OBJECTIVES : Objectives may be set for the entire organization and each department or unit within the organization.2.) DEVELOPING PREMISES : Planning is concerned with the future which is uncertain & every planner is using conjecture about what might happen in future.3.) IDENTIFYING ALTERNATIVE COURSES OF ACTION : Once objectives are set, assumption are made. Then the next step would be to act upon them.
4.) EVALUATING ALTERNATIVE COURSES : The next step is to weight the pros & cons of each alternative.5.) SELECTING AN ALTERNATIVE : This is the real point of decision making. The best plan has to be adopted and implemented.6.) IMPLEMENT THE PLAN : This is concerned with the plan put into action.7.) FOLLOW-UP ACTION : Monitoring the plans are equally important to ensure that objectives are achieved.
