The Family Safety team is a client-centred, trauma informed service, designed to providecounselling and support to families experiencing relationship difficulties. The team providesspecialist family violence services to men, women and children who have, or are currentlyexperiencing family violence. In addition, the team provides accountability and behaviourchange services for perpetrators of family violence, through individual interventions andgroup work.
The CBT Practitioner provides one-to-one intensive, innovative and holistic short-termpsychosocial interventions to men who have perpetrated family violence. The purpose ofthis role is to support a change in the thought-behaviour process of men who perpetrateFamily Violence, through the provision of CBT informed intervention, to enable men toparticipate meaningfully in behaviour change. The position provides therapeutic support,using techniques that include mindfulness, to create conditions that enable bothaccountability and change.

The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● Providing one-to-one specialist Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and psychoeducation
with men who have complex issues that present as barriers to service engagement
including AOD and mental health diagnoses.
● Effectively managing a caseload of men and drawing on other evidence informed
approaches, including mindfulness, to build skills to enhance the safety of affected
family members impacted by Family Violence.
● Working flexibly to support the effective operation of the Service and the
management of appropriate levels of service provision for urgent and routine
support, and waiting times.
● Providing interventions through a range of delivery methods, including face to face,
outreach, remote or web based services (e.g. telephone assessments and therapy,
and email or video based consultations).
● Conducting on-going risk assessments and developing safety plans to mitigate risk
and ensure safety of women and children. Conducting risk assessments for suicide
risk and ideation to harm children and / or others and developing safety plans for
men who use violence.
● Delivering services to quality standards, complying with relevant legislation and
contractual requirements.
● Maintaining professional documentation and administrative systems according to
program and legislative requirements, including planning and documentation of
group and education programs.
● Attending regular reflective practice groups, which explores the role privilege plays
with particular reference to sexism across the Family Violence and Family Services
sector.

1. Post Graduate Degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a relevant
clinical, therapeutic field and relevant training/ accreditation in CBT.
2. Membership or accreditation with a relevant professional body.
3. Working knowledge of the complexities of family violence.
4. Demonstrated experience delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and
mindfulness.
5. Demonstrated experience working with CALD and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander populations.
6. Demonstrated experience with separation, Family Law, mental health, sexual abuse,
alcohol and other drugs and family violence issues.
7. Demonstrated clinical experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
8. Demonstrated ability undertaking risk assessments and developing safety plans to
keep women and children safe.
9. Counselling experience, with a particular emphasis on working with men who have
used violence and their families.
10. Information technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, video
conferencing platforms and client management systems.
