Hello and thankyou for enquiring and showing interest in the very first Portsmouth Festival of Football tournament. August 2015.
In the following pages I hope to have included everything you may possibly need to help you decide that the Portsmouth Festival of Football is the ideal tournament to kickstart your new season and give your youngsters the chance to play against local and teams from further afield.
After many years as a football enthusiast, Iʼve travelled much of the UK and the USA as a Football or ʻSoccerʼ coach with varying success in tournaments, leagues and camps, now a teacher in Portsmouth.
# With a degree in Sport and experience of organizing mainly 5-a-side football tournaments with Powerleague Soccer; being involved in the News of the World National fives has taught me quite a lot about ʻwhat a team would wantʼ from a tournament and in using the first class facilities of Portsmouth University, I think we have formula that would work.
Club experience, my links with Portsmouth University saw me gain recognition with UPWFC, coaching and winning the National BUSA shield in 2005 and then leaving to setup Hayling United Ladies FC in 2006. Through this, I currently work with Andy Broadhurst (secretary of BTC Southampton) who is also on the organising committee and felt that there was a need for pre-season 11-a-side football tournaments somewhere in between.
This tournament is not the first tournament to be held here at Langstone Campus and certainly will be in the shadows of the highly respected, International Youth Royal Mail Cup; where memories of players, my age remember, International football, fun and importantly lifelong friendship.
If, with your help we can make this a fraction of that success, the city will continue to live up to the growing reputation as a developmental hotbed of football. The city owns its football club, has moved and invested in training facilities, so why not bring that down to grass roots level and identify the stars of the future. This could be a platform for that.
Places are limited, so please read, talk to your coaches and managers and help make this the premium football tournament in Portsmouth. Sign up early to WIN a full kit before the start of the new season.
I look forward to you taking part. David MacAskillTournament Organiser

The Portsmouth Festival of Football is aimed at Youth football teams both in the community of Portsmouth and extended to visiting teams from around the world.
With the emphasis primarily on competitive football but also celebrating the social elements, fun and friendliness. Having a common interest to bring us together and establishing reasons to stay in touch. Football is our catalyst.
The Portsmouth Festival of Football (FA APPROVED is an opportunity to work with and celebrate Portsmouth as it’s own CITY OF FOOTBALL highlighted by the recent resurgance of Portsmouth Football Club. The fans of the club recently raised £275000 to purchase a new academy training facility which shows the enthusiasm and the passion of belief and interest in youth football that there is here in Portsmouth.
We asked the question ‘ Why not establish a football tournament worthy of it’s community and lets invite others into our city to catch our bug.
First class facilities at the University of Portsmouth, currently being used by Portsmouth Football Club have meant an investment in grass pitches to meet the rigors of professional football as well as that of student sports. Our weekend tournament has the provision for overnight stays, car parking, breakfast, changing facilities, additional training facilities (with lights) and additional coaching opportunities. Portsmouth University are pleased to showcase their facilities and are looking forward to establishing the Festival of Football as a permanent fixture in the footballing calendar. Our partners include
