Portraits A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person.

Standard Facial Proportions:Here are a list of standard facial proportions that can give you a good idea of ideal proportions. •The eyes are halfway between the top of the head and the chin. •The bottom of the nose is halfway between the eyes and the chin. •The mouth is halfway between the nose and the chin. •The corners of the mouth line up with the centers of the eyes. •The top of the ears line up above the eyes, on the eyebrows. •The bottom of the ears line up with the bottom of the nose.

All these "ideal" measurements vary from face to face. Very few faces will follow every one of these ratios exactly, but if you make your sketches agree with them, you will get pleasing results.

• Take your picture and cut it in half• Glue One half down to your paper• Now Draw the other half using graphite or

colored pencils only• Blend and show value • If you do not have a picture get a picture out

of a magazine

• Take a picture and Draw a portrait• Show value• Use proper proportions– First draw your oval and guide lines– Then adjust so that images match your picture– Show value so that image looks 3-D
