Photographer: George Garnier

George is 30 years old and from London he’s in a film and stage crew and is a photographer. He has his own photography studio in Bermondsey, London. He has shot official portraits of Prime Ministers Blair and Cameron. George is the creative director of a magazine in Bulgaria called MODA. The magazine specializes in fashion and portraiture and he not only is involved with this magazine but also contributes to European publications. He has been published in ID, Tatler, Amica and has a particularly keen interest in the current trends of menswear designers. He is also a regular contributor to online magazines like Attire and Style.

I like this photo because it’s a portrait picture but shows fashion so is just like what I want on my magazine cover. Its used to make people want to buy the magazine and show them what kind of style this magazine is for. This picture was one George actually used for his magazine MODA and I think its good and works because its not to busy for a front cover but its interesting and fun. The shutter speed of this image would have had to be fast because it looks like she's jumping in it so for it to be a clear picture the lens would have had to capture the image fast.

This is another portrait picture by George Garnier but this one is just simply of the model and just a mid shot. He takes a lot of photos for models who have profiles for work. I think this is a good picture because its taken in black and white to give it a more dramatic effect but its still simple and you can see what's in the image. I like this style of picture because on a magazine cover big it would look good and striking. However I want to take a picture showing some fashion to. The shutter speed in this photo wouldn’t had to of been really fast or really slow because the model is stood still so it would have been captured in a normal speed.

I think George Garnier can influence my work because he is very creative with his shots and likes to make them interesting but not too busy. The backgrounds in most of his photos are buildings or landscapes. Then he takes more simple pictures with no background just focusing on the model. I think I can mix both of his styles together by having a close up model picture wearing a fashion statement that we can just see in the shot. In some of his shots he has the models moving and I would like to try and see if I could do this in some of mine using different shutter speeds like he does.

Miro ArvaHe is a London based fashion & beauty photographer. Miro Arva was born in a small country right in the heart of Europe. Since an early age, he was always fascinated by fashion stories in magazines. After studying tourism and business, he decided to pursue a completely different career. Miro has been taking photographs professionally since 2007. He then finally decided to London it being one of the worlds' fashion capitals. He entered Naomi Campbell's Fashion Photographer Search” in summer 2010 which was to win the opportunity to shoot a glamour magazine photo shoot, Miro won and got the amazing opportunity to shoot one of the fashion icons and supermodels Naomi Campbell for Glamour UK magazine.

I like this photo because it’s a portrait photo but also includes fashion which is what I want to do with my cover shot. I like the angle of the shot because the model isn’t central in the shot. I think people looking at this would be interested because its like he’s looking at something and also be looking at what he’s wearing. I like the black and white effect of this photo also I think it makes pictures look more classic and I think this would be a good look on my magazine and might attract people because of the dramatic look it gives. The model is not moving so the shutter speed would just be normal for this picture, however I think when I take my picture I would want to practice with different shutter speeds and have my model moving to see what effect it gives. Also I think I would like a bit of colour in my photos, like this but pick out certain colours by editing the photo, I think this will give a good effect. I like this colours in this photo and would like to shoot something like this in black and white and then pick out the bright colour like in this picture her skirt and earrings. I think this would give a different look to my magazine cover and I could pick out as many colours as I wanted to. This photo is central and the model is looking straight at the camera which I think is keeping the photo simple but I like that so that when I edit the picture it won’t look to busy if I have lots happening in the actual shot to. The shutter speed for this photo would just be normal because she is just stood still posing. I like the plain background I think I would want to do the same because I want the focus to be more on the model and the outfit to show what my magazine is about.

InfluenceI think Miro Arva can influence my work because he takes photos of people who have the kind of style I like. I like the way he takes pictures and seems to always show what the main focus is. Even if there’s something in the background the focus is still the model and their clothes. I like the mid shot’s he’s uses also because it attracts people to the magazine because it doesn’t look to busy and shows the focus of the magazine. He doesn’t use lots of different shutter speeds but he does use lots of angles and I like this because it makes the shot more interesting even though its just a mid shot of a model. I like how most of his pictures are just of one model I think it helps concentrate on the clothes rather than the position and poses of both models, I like the simple look he uses but how he makes it fun and striking.

Annie Leibovitz Annie is an American portrait photographer born in Connecticut but studied painting at the San Francisco art institute while taking night classes in photography. In 1970 she began working for the Rolling Stone magazine so this was the beginning of her photography career, she was chief photographer. When she left 10 years later she had already shot 142 covers. In 1983 she joined the staff at Vanity Fair magazine, this was where she started getting into fashion photography, soon after this she also began working for Vogue fashion magazine. Since then she has created influential magazine campaigns for the Gap and Got milk? Adverts. Exhibitions of her images have appeared at museums and galleries all over the world, including the National Portrait Gallery and the international centre of photography. Her work involves a lot of Disney, fantasy themes and celebrities. To me her work seems very different and original, very strange.

I like this picture because I love the Disney theme mixed with the celebrities. It includes a different kind of fashion to what I want in my project but I like the colour used, the originality of the idea and the bringing back of fairy tales back and making them modern with celebrities. I like the angle of the shot like the models are looking up at the camera I want to use some angles like this to see what effect it would give on the front of a magazine. I like how bright the costumes are and I would like to use bright colours like these when dressing my model because if I want to make it black and white I will have these bright colours I can pick out when editing. The shutter speed on this shot is a slow one because of the blurred background like the cups they are sitting in are spinning. However the focus is on the models so we see them clearly . I like the use of focus and shutter speed here because it gives the photo more depth and interest.I love this picture because of how it made me look at it because its so simple but interesting. I love hoe the dress trails behind her reach right to the ground. This is more of her fashion photography and I would like to do something like this just maybe closer up for my magazine cover. The model isn’t looking down loads the camera is almost eye level.

I think Annie Lebovits will influence my work because I like her imagination with her photos and how she uses different angles to create a different look like someone is small or looking up at someone, or moving. Her more fashion shoots are very glamorous and usually of females actresses. I would like to add Glamour to my shots to make my magazine look more interesting and classy. A few of her portrait shots are black and white and she uses the contrast and shadows to make the portrait look mysterious and smooth. I think the pictures she takes would could defiantly be on the front cover of a fashion magazine like what I’m doing so I love her portrait and fashion shots. I think working with a lot of celebrities and people on two types of magazines made her able to do all kinds of shot and set the models up how she wants them. I think when she takes the pictures she tries to take a picture showing what the person is like, she was known to show a persons personality in her pictures by giving them a prop or having them in a certain pose or location. Because my magazine is made up I can use this and create my own models and their stories and try and show this through my work.
