During the latest regulations change from the Oregon Governor and Oregon Health Authority on December 8th, 2020 the Governor in the FAQ information downgraded all our meetings from being regular monthly required stated meetings of a Fraternal Non-profit Corporation to the status of a limited occupancy social gathering.
The Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Governor to this point have declined to hear contradictions to this mislabeling of our entities status and meeting purpose. Although there was no reasonable explanation available for singling out Fraternal Orders for stricter regulation verses our state’s other similar charitable, spiritual, and civic Non-profit organizations, sadly this is the current regulations we are required to follow from the Oregon Governor.
At present date the quantity in Multnomah County for occupancy at a Fraternal business meeting (held in our sixty thousand square foot Temple) is limited to 6 members; unfortunately this prevents us from being able to establish the quorum necessary for us to hold in-person business meetings. If the current guidelines continue we will not be able to meet in-person with sufficient numbers to establish quorum for all our Bodies until our county’s “sector risk level” drops to a “Lower Risk” level. At that time we may be able to hold meetings of up to 10 members until we reach a yet to be established lower than low level risk.
Fortunately the Supreme Council and our Sovereign Grand Inspector General of Oregon have granted us dispensation to hold online meetings. The Valley has obtained an account for Zoom from Supreme Council and we previously used it for a special meeting in October to much success and with sufficient membership in attendance to establish quorum.
In the upcoming months we plan to hold online special meetings whenever we have necessary fraternal business to conduct. Also we are looking for presenters or guest speakers to provide Masonic entertainment and education for online event functions. Be sure to check your email or the Orient Blog for notices of events and if you have not yet signed up for the Valley email blast you can do so by clicking here.

News of the Oregon Consistory of
Masters of the Royal Secret №1 Brethren,
As 2020 thankfully comes to a close and 2021 begins, I can only hope next year brings all the best we can hope for. Like anyone else, I find the need to be reminded to be thankful. I am thankful for all the things I miss. 2019 seems like another alien world to me now; a world I would love to visit again. This past year has been a year of reflection and what has been missed most of all is our ability to meet, act and take part in our Rites.
I truly miss: Our Degrees and all that goes into our productions, the positive outcomes from the transmission of knowledge, the diligent work of men bound in honor, working toward a common goal of creating great work worthy of an
audience for their Brothers, and the camaraderie felt amongst the Brethren during our after Degree discussions.
Missed are those gifts of insight given me by mentors at our ceremonial evenings exemplifying the Degrees of our Scottish Rite. I have learned a lot from the small favor of a duly timed whisper or sometimes shouted insights and accolades that conjure up new perspectives. Watching the degrees sometimes grants a simple reminder of a better way forward. I have had varying success in my own journey through our Rites and am thankful for every minute received.
To journey amid the dangers and mystery of the internal and external worlds is what we do. The myriad of lenses shown through the lessons of the encampment teach us to be flexible and find the balance we need to strive forward. We shall return to create exemplified trials of the journey into the unknown for the betterment of everyone.
Hopefully, our patience will be rewarded with everyone being able to attend together soon.
Sincerely and Fraternally, Sean McCallum, 32°, KSA Master of Kadosh Oregon Consistory No. 1
