Germany’s government sponsored inflation also known as the “Year of Hunger”causes Bauhaus to turn to industrial design and mass production
Art Deco is born from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts) held in Paris, France
Time of TransitionThrough the 1910’s and 1920’s, fashion evolved away from the rigid Victorian way of life. Fashion became looser, with hemlines inching up to show the ankles and
legs, while fabrics became lighter and brighter. As the Twenties came along, Coco Chanel was very influential for her simplis-tic yet elegant styles that influenced the decade’s fashion.
When World War I ended in 1918, a truce was declared and the treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919. During this time, a huge serge in economic and technological advances were made in America. Many soldiers came back to wartime wages and a market full of new products to spend it on. One of the new products more available after the war was the car, which became more common in the US and Canada during the 1920’s.
During the 1920‘s, Art Nouveau gave way to Art Deco, giving buildings such as Buffalo City Hall in Buffalo NY,
the Chrysler building in New York, and the infamous Radio City Music Hall in New York their signature styles.
Historical events and the art that was created that influenced the changes in graphic
design from 1910-1930.
