Daniel looked at the map, urned to face east and shouted

“That way!”

Daniel followed the pirates up the hill, and followed them down the other side. At the coast they climbed into a small boat, and rowed to their pirate ship.

One night, as Daniel was about to fall asleep he heard a noise and opened his eyes. Being a pirate himself, it didn’t surprise him too much to see pirates entering his room through the window.

One of the pirates approached him and said, “Good evening Matey, we’ve heard of yer exploits and have come to ask for yer help.”

“Me?” asked Daniel.

“How can I help you?”

“By reading this treasure map,” the leader of the pirates pleaded.

“Treasure map?” asked Daniel.

“The map to get to the Pirate Queen’s treasure,” explained other pirate.

Daniel noticed the rest of the pirates nodding their heads.

Another pirate explained. “Ye have conquered yer ABC’s!”

The pirate had a point. Daniel stopped to think about it for much less than a second and said:

“Yes! I will help you!”

“Yarr!” the pirates shouted happily.

“Hush,” said Daniel, “You’ll wake my little sister.”

Warming to the Scurvy Fellows, Daniel revealed to them his pirate name, “Captain Smellysox!” which made the pirates raise their swords and knifes into the air and shout “Arrrr.”“We’d better go now,” said Daniel looking over his shoulder. Fortunately the noise hadn’t woken his family.

The pirates then introduced themselves. They were quite a bunch: there was Captain Vinny and One-Eye Larry, Old Man Charlie and the Pirate With No Name, and of course, the parrot Pieces o’ Eight.

“Land ahoy,” called out One-Eye Larry.

Everybody looked starboard and saw a small island that looked exactly like the one on the map!

Daniel and the pirates scrambled into the rowboat and hurried onto the shore.

Rattle, rattle, rattle and lo, a reddish red hand reached out!

“Eeep!” said Julia.

Rattle, rattle, rattle and lo, another reddish red hand reached out

“Eeeeep!” said Julia again.

She took a deep breath to calm down.

When she was able to move her arms and legs again, Julia walked to her bed and peeked under.

She saw a little door with a sign and a small arrow pointing down.

“Huh,” said Julia, “I’ve never been down there before. I wonder how it is...”

So Julia opened the small door, peered through it and decided to explore down below.

It was a strange, hot and dirty land, full of dark corners and sharp edges.

“I think this place is a little grim,” said Julia.

But even so, she decided to have fun.

She played hide and seek with her shadow , jumping around and laughing…

Until she met face to face with the Hairy

Big Creature.

Both jumped at the same time.

“Eeep!” said Julia.

“Eeeeeeep!” echoed the Hairy Big Creature.

They stared at each other for a moment or two, and then started laughing nervously.

Then the nervous laugh left aside the nervousness and they kept on laughing until they couldn’t laugh any more.

“Let’s have more fun,” said Julia to the Hairy Big Creature, and they both smiled.
