-hazy atmosphere seems to be the only condition left where you still can take breath-

by entering the room, you are surrounded by fog and grey-green light. You experience a wet and reflecting floor by walking barefoot through the installation.Sound of rain gives the impression of being outside while moving through an artificial space. A specific smell evokes the memory of wet earth, sea-sons and weather in your mind. The setting creates a specific atmosphere in space which is received by physical senses. The imitation of familiar conditions rises the memory of reality.Beside all the different sensations through sound, visual and touching expe-riences, the olfactive impression is the heart of the installation. It transforms a white gallery space into nature.

September, 2013Norwegian Theater Academy-HIOF (NTA)Workshop by Arnold Dreyblatt / Archive research

Language is a communication between people. Using language we are exchanging information. More we understand each others’ language, more exact information we get. There is a clear border between understanding the meaning of language or hearing only the sound of it. Not to be able to understand another language gives us an opportunity to hear, experience a melody of it. Every nation hears other languages differently. It is interesting to explore how different nations hear each others language if they don`t understand the meaning of words. We chose 9 participants from different nationalities having different moth-er-tongue. These 9 participants are asked to translate and record this text into their own language. Afterwards they are asked to listen other participants’ language and express it while they are receiving it. Out of this experiment comes 72 tracks of 9 different language expressions. This forms a beginning of archive: Melody of Language. While language is a complex system of sounds and meanings, melody is free of intricacy.Do we need to learn a meaning of language rather a melody of it?

song for many ears

Song by composer Arvo Pärt: Es Sang Vor Langen JahrenSinger: Karolina Blixt

The project is based on an article “The Man Who Sells the Moon”, that was published by The New York Times. Concept of the opera script highlights some critical aspects related to capitalism. How far can we go with puting the ownership in the top of the priority list? Can we own something that originally does´t belong to us? Why and when we have lost the trust in nature and did we?
