PROJECT  MANAGEMENT/  LEAD  DESIGNER:    Shayne  Smith,  Hirsch  Bedner   CHALLENGE: The challenge was to transform an existing three-star club into a five-star luxury club during the winter so that it would be ready in time for the summer season. SOLUTION: The solution was to work within the existing structure to transform the club and member experience. The design focused on bringing light into the hotel and creating unique design features. New entry and arrival spaces were provided along with new bar, restaurant and aspa. CHALLENGE: The challenge was to design a premiere residential enclave in Shanghai, in a classic European style. The client desired 18 ultra-luxury villas that would offer individuality, privacy and exclusivity, with a feeling of timelessness and permanence.

SOLUTION: The design team conceived the development as a gated community to offer both security and exclusivity to the residents. The entrance is defined by elegant wrought iron gates set into a stone wall and embraced by a classic landscaped garden. Stone, brick, slate and tile were used extensively with a seamless definition between exterior and interior components. All major rooms were oriented to the south to ensure the villas have a light and airy feeling.

SIZE: 4 hectares (9.88 acres) 18 villas -average 1,490 square meters each (16,000 square feet each)

AMENITIES: Indoor swimming pools; private theaters; libraries; formal dining rooms; Western and Chinese style kitchens; minimum of five bedrooms; classic landscaped gardens
