Project and Location:

Queen of the South Adventure Gallery

Referring to precedent and local content ,water in the landscape is a vital element in design. Due to the location, I would love to a use water element for balancing atmosphere in this site (beach). The function of “Queen of the South Adventure Gallery” is not just only exhibition, but also to learn the Arts. There is a part for a school art complex, in which the buildings float on the water, and a canoe must used to reach.

During the project of “Queen of the South Adventure Gallery”, I learned how to design a building with a precedent. The precedent that I adopted was from a landscape architect, Bill Bensley (USA), who has already made many projects in Indonesia , Thailand, and Bangkok. He is an Architect who has worked on many luxury resorts; for example: Four Seasons Resort, Anantara hotel and resort, etc. His projects always consider the enviroment. I received a huge contoured site, located on the sea shore south beach of Java (Indonesia), and was to design a gallery. In this case, I must consider the earth and the environment when I apply the techniques.

With a huge contour, there are many challenges in design. For a part of the commercial area, which consists of many traditional kiosks, I did not use cut and fill of the contour, but instead used a form of contour as a pattern to orientate the building.

Tectonic Architecture and Local Traditional Building:

In every project, Bill Bensley to adapts the architectural form to the existingtraditional building in that place. The project of “Queen of the South Adventure Gallery” is located in Yogyakarta (Indonesia),in which there are traditional buildings called Joglo. Architecture Design in Yogyakarta include many traditional patterns, which are adapted from “Batik”.

I also used Batik patterns in carvings on the walls. For the material of the building, I used local materials like such as stone and wood, which are best suited for the climate.

This mosque was created based on Green Architecture, which considers the population density and lack of open space in that area. From Ar Ra’d mosque project 70% of the whole area is productive land, which contains a rice field to support local business, a public facilities building district, such as a school, library and commercial trading. Final Project at The Department of Architecture

The form of the “Yogyakarta Circuit Race” project is based on the movement of Cheetah. The structural from expresses the ideals of the body of a Cheetah (clean, slippery and curved lines). With this project, I hope to show the people in the surrounding area that this circuit race is not noisy and produces no pollution. In doing so, I would like to raise awareness for preserving the environment.

The sports hall is located in Trier Biewer (Germany), which has an overall area of 12m x 25m. This Client wanted to rebuild this sports hall as a multiple family dwelling, which could accomodate more than 10 families. As a module, I used split house model design, which I adapted from the building “Berlin Unite D'habitation” by Le Corbusier. Additionally, I used a spilt core with a double tenant construction to efficiently use the service area.
