As part of the London 2012 Olympic Games I was chosen to perform in Danny Boyle’s Olympic Opening ceremony, it was a great opportunity that showed me how enjoyable voluntary work can be and has inspired me to continue with voluntary projects.

Using rapid prototyping to display the concept to the Phillips team I developed a fully recessable LED architectural light fixture specifically for galleries. The project gave me valuable experience into developing a highly technical product using a combination of 2, 2.5 and 3d modelling to create the best possible design outcome.

As a team we developed a concept for the Building Trust International for compact living solutions focused on Human Factors and the ergonomics of living in a confined space.

I developed multiple concepts for the buying teams of the two companies, two of which were short listed for manufacture.

I have a passion for design, as long as I can remember I have wanted to build and create. I have now developed skills that allow me to take this passion and apply it to real problems to develop inovative solutions. As a hard working person I enjoy being faced with new chalanges and am keen to work in new situations.

In my spare time I enjoy trail mountain biking and hiking, and have taken Duke of Edinburgh Award up to Gold level. This was something that required dedication and team work in difficult situations.

Working with the technology based elements of LEGO Products; I helped develop products like Power Functions and Mindstorms, electronic elements that allow kids to add mechanical and robotics functions to their models. My role allowed me to be consistently involved in different stages of development of LEGO products, this includes everything from experimenting with new technologies for concepts, Prototyping, UI/UX, Styling and establishing platforms.

As an Ambassador I was responsible for projecting the image of Brunel within design and of the University to potential students and their parents. This has required me to give tours and represent open days concisely and professionally to ensure the university is shown in the best light.

E xamples of sketching, varying from initial rough sketches to presentation quality marker renders. These are all examples of

hand sketching, using fine liner marker pens, and Promarkers to render. I also have some experience sketching directly into Photoshop and Illustrator using the Wacom bamboo drawing tablet.

Using Solidworks, PhotoView 360 and Keyshot the renders showcase my ability to create accurate Solidworks models as well as the ability

to render and display them professionally. Stress/stain evaluation using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis modelling allows me to optimise CAD drawings, with fewer physical prototype iterations. I can quickly test a design and interpret the results to see where stress is concentrated.

I am experienced in developing Physical and Digital prototypes. I have knowledge prototyping with of most physical materials and can create

both working and aesthetic models. I also have experience in electronic prototyping as well as developing applications for test (Flash).

Developed as a project Phillips lighting, ‘honu’ the retractable wall washing flood luminaire is intended for use in high-end modern and

contemporary art galleries.

UID8520 DIM DALI DatasheetToBeTouched User interface

General description

The ToBeTouched UID8520 DIM DALI user interface panel is designed for intuitive control of light level on DALI lighting systems. Direct access to a specific light level is provided via a touch-sensitive backlit intensity selection ring. By pressing the “on” side of the button the last used light level will be restored.

Building upon the iconic design and user-friendliness of the color ring used in LivingColors, the ToBeTouched range of intuitive user interfaces brings the same style and ease of interaction to professional lighting applications.

The ToBeTouched range comprises various models. These range from a simple on/off switch, plus a version with dimming, through to a cool/warm-white controller and a full-color model. Assisting the user with light, sound and color feedback, these easy-to-install interfaces make operating a lighting system straightforward – and fun!

Philips stand-alone controls combine energy saving with simplicity. In buildings, energy savings of up to 55% are quite common, but these simple plug & play systems themselves generate savings of up to 30-70% on individual luminaires.

A compact shape was developed to allow the luminaire to recess into a ceiling allowing it to hide out of sight when not in use, also

allowing it to be used as a down lighter. Many features were identified as critical for galley luminaires. The lens and reflector solution ensures even light distribution and the light is fully lockable with unrestricted 360° rotation and 160° pitch.

The British heritage brand ‘Huntsman’ was born in 2013. As a close team of five, we established the brand for a line of high quality

cookware manufactured in Britain.

Logo Development

Once the brand was created and defined, we each created a product suitable to the brand to develop a range of cookware based on the

same design principals. I developed a cast iron grill pan which induces heat better than regular aluminium or steel pans, cooking food faster.

The Pans unique shape moves centre of gravity towards the handle, allowing the user to more easily use the product compared to heavy

existing cast iron pans. A lot of ergonomic consideration went into the pan, and the handle, to ensure it was easy to pick up and use.

The core of the project was develop a cheap and fast construction method for a space where multiple inhabitants could comfortably

reside in a limited area. The space is light, open and adaptable for the use of migrant workers in Singapore. The design lends its self to adaptability, the only real fixed spaces being the kitchen and bathroom, leaving the rest of the space to be used however the workers wish. The project was a collaboration between Building Trust international and a team of 5 Designers.

Working to develop a promotional product for BPMA and 3M, I chose to develop a concept to improve the public perception of

the banking sector. The final concept is a ‘Paper Wallet’ (Tyvek) has a built in Near Field Communication Tag which can be read by compatible Mobile Handsets. This brings up and app or web page associated with the bank, which can be used for the user to easily check there balance, improving money management and increase the reach of advertising campaigns.

Whilst at the paper I was instrumental in developing a new identity for print, and defining the online identity of the paper. The student

Newspaper runs monthly issues, I was also responsible for the sport section and develop a differentiation of the section, within Typographic and design style within the brand of the paper.
