Carson Gibbs Portfolio Semester Exam

PLAN TMy fi rst week in Pantertails I created a logo. I was very new to all the adobe soft ware. Not knowing how to use anthing and having to learn what all the buttons were. It was very challeging for me to translate my drawing from the paper to the computer. In my logo I freehanded most of it which makes the logo not as proff esional. If I were to redo this I would make sure to use the stencialls to make all my lines strait.

Carson is about to make a big play by diving back-wards to pick up the tip which the oponent’s middle threw benind her in picture one. Carlos, the pho-tograper, catches her on point. Eat, sleep, and play is what Carson’s life consits. Volleyball is everything! She plays 24/7, all year. In the sport of volleyball, she plays the postion of setter, which is the player who sets the ball up to be slammed down on the otherside of the net by one of her teammates. Car-son has played volleyball since sixth grade and loved every minute. Durring the Fall season, she plays on the the Plant High School Varsity team and practice is mandantory everyday for two and a half hours to maintain their district champions title. In addi-tion, Carson plays club volleyball at Tampa United Volleyball Academy during the Spring and Summer seasons. Because of her time and dedication to the sport, she has developed many lifelong friends. On this club team she has met some of her best friends, such as, Kendall Bulleit, the other setter on the team. Kendall has said, “Playing the same postion and seeing Carson all the time has really brought us closer, she is always in a good mood at practice and she brings her positive vibe onto the court.”

The City tthat Never Sleeps

3- Hope and Carson smile for a selfie in front of the Rockafellar Center, a special place that has been on the girl’s bucket list since they were kids. It is a beautiful location seen in the movies and the girls really wanted to go skating. Luckly, there was not a line and they jumped on the ice quick! Hope says, “It felt like we were in a scene from a movie”.

2-Carson and Hope pose for a picture in Times Square after a full day of shopping. This was their last night in the big city, so they said their goodbyes before leaving. Carson`s mom tells the girls, “This will be a trip that they will always remember.”

1-”It was like walking into candy heaven,” said Car-son. After shopping all day, Hope and Carson find themselves in Dylans Candy Bar. There was candy everywhere, they could hardly choose which kinds of candy to buy. This was one of the girls favorite stops on the trip!

1-Cole Gibbs is Carson`s big brother, they are very close and do not normally fight. Every summer they head to Bellair Beach and spend two weeks soaking up the sun. “Traveling to the beach is my favorite two weeks of sum-mer. Carson and I snorkel and play the corntoss game, it is a blast!” said Cole.2-Sports are a big part of the Gibbs family! Cole has a love for basball, just like Carson has a love for volleyball. He plays at Jesuit High School and Cole`s team won the state championship this past Spring with hopes to repeat his Senior year. Cole stated,“ My sister is one of my biggest fans, she always makes me feel better, even when I don`t play well.” 3-”Carson and Cole have always supported each other,” says their Dad, Michael Gibbs. Cole was recognized into the National Honors Society. Carson was cheering him on the whole night and was very proud.

It’s a brother, sister thing

lifeis on point

2-”Carson always gives 100% whenever she plays, it is exciting to watch her,” said Carson`s mom, Paige Gibbs. Carson is about to serve the ball. She is trying to ace the other team to execute a run of points to win the game.3- Carson plays club volleyball six months out of the year. Through these many months her team-mates become more like family. Carson can always rely on her team for help and support. Emily Doyle, one of Carson`s best-friends on the team, said, “I could not imagine not playing with Car-son, we are always joking around, making practice fun!”

In my spread about my life, I though it did very well on the project. Not having any yearbook background, and never having created a spread before i thought my spread was very creative. Th e gold line in the middle and on the side, the pink box, and the picture bleeding gives the spread something diff erent. I enjoyed creatiating this spread because it advanced my knowledge of indesign.

The next month, October, the baseball team played their rivals Jesuit. Attending this game I attempted to snap action shots during this game. This picture is much better than the other for many reasons, one being that his body is towards me and he is load position about the hit the ball, this picture is more focused and it has a plot.

My first beat I wrote was in the month of September. When taking my pictures at one of their practices I was very unexperienced with the camera. For example I did not how to turn the flash off. My pictures in Septermeber I learned later were not suseccful. When lookinng at this picture it is not yearbook worthy for many reasons. One being that all of the players backs are turned, also there is no focuse in the picture, it shows no plot and you do not know what is going on.

The Wonder Boys by:Carson Gibbs

“Baseball doesn’t build character, but it brings out your true character,” Jake Woodford (12) said. The Wonder boys, labeled over their four years of participation in Plant baseball, Woodford and Kyle Tucker (12) played 24/7 and made their lives revolve around baseball. Jake played in the winning of the Junior World Series with his summer baseball team and Tucker played in the Under Armor, Alflac game, the Perfect Game, and in the All-American. The players, were per-sonally asked by coaches from all over the nation, Tucker said, “I felt honored to participate in these games.” Both players really made a name for themselves through their determination and love for the game. The two Wonder boys had a strong chance of being high up in the drafts since the pro-scouts recently interviewed them from six major leauge teams: the Marlins, the Cubs, the Rays, the Nationals, the Pirates, and the Royals. The interview helped the scouts to see how they would do in the pros. The interview consisted of an eye test, to make sure they were mentally stable and a nice fit for the team. Braun talked about the the boys like a proud father and explained the rarity to have the potential for first round picks from his team. He said, “Woodie has the best arm I have seen in a while and tucker is the best hitter I have coached in a while.”

In my November beat was one of my best written beats so far. I have had rouble in my last beats because I never have had any real plot and I have trouble keeping the reader interested. In this beat however, I though I used my quotes in the write spots. Also I learned to seperate your stories in to smaller paragraphs to keep the reader inter-sted.

In photoshop I cropped one of my baseball pictures that I took. I found this very difficult because you can not make a mistake. Everytime I was going around the the picture I would end up clicking in the wrong spot and have to start the whole picture over. Cropping a picture was very challenging for me.

In another one of my baseball pictures, which i took, I enhanced this picture. Because of my lack of knowledge with the camera this picture turned out dark. On Photoshop I played with the bring differ-ent colors out and the brightness. In this picture I brightened it and brought out the green grass in the back and the yellow of the four on his back. I thought all the edits all I made improved the quality of the picture.

In this soccer picture which I used the blur took on the side bar. I do not think that this is the correct way to pre-form a blur, and I had lots of trouble with it. The picture ened up being blured on the people, but the grass below does not look very blured.

When preforming the color pop picture, I had an easier time then when cropping. When making this picture I took a different approach then going around the whole picture and was taught to select the whole background and then changed the color of it. I really liked how this turned out it and this is one of my favorite edits that Ihave learned.
