One of the first employments where I had the opportunity to create original posters and to develop complete graphic designs as an art director. In addition to the posters for various opera plays, I have also designed the monthly program posters and brochures, all kinds of advertising flyers, and special invitation cards for official guests: media, local and govern-ment officials. You will see more of my works for the Opera in the “Brochures / Flyers” and “Covers” sections further on. I have worked for the State Opera Stara Zagora during the 2008 / 2009 Season.

Monthly Program posterSeptember/October 2008

The concept of a monthly program is not only to dis-play the schedule of opera performances but also to symbolically reflect a specific time of the year. In this case, early autumn is represented by falling leaves and a flower typical of that time. Images taken and retouched by my-self.

Ever since its establishment, the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts has al-ways had an acknowledged theatre scene: the Academic Drama Theatre, which is open to the public and gives theatre students and graduates the chance to practise their skills in front of the audience. Shortly after I left the State Opera Stara Zagora I started working for the Academic Drama Theatre of NATFIZ as a designer in charge of the whole graphic com-munication. I was responsible for the art and graphic design of posters, vinyl banners, bro-chures and leaflets for the performances on stage, as well as the design of program post-ers and brochures for the upcoming months. You will see more of my works for NATFIZ in the “Brochures / Flyers” section further on. I have worked for the Academic Drama Thea-tre of NATFIZ during the seasons 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and half 2011/2012.

This is the place where I used to print all my projects for the National Academy of Art while I was studying there. The firm is dedicated to all kinds of services related to printing and graphic design (as its name shows). I was hired there later on and my work involved the graphic design and the pre-print of all projects assigned to the firm. You can see some of my original projects here, others – in the “Log-os” and “Catalogs” sections. I have worked at NAYA Bulgaria from October 2007 to end of June 2008.

Poster: 70x100 cm

A major part of my development as an artist and designer I owe to the Academy. Therefore I believe that some of the projects that I have developed there, and I am now showing here, have no less artistic quality or value than the works I have created as a professional (actu-ally, a significant part of my professional expe-rience went in parallel with my studies at the Academy). All posters presented in this sec-tion are my original work, with minor interven-tions from my respected professors and tutors of the specific matter. I have studied at the National Academy of Art from 2005 to 2010 and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree.

Project: how I imagine a friend or a colleague in their 60’s. The theme was without restrictions for tech-nique, colours or materials. Why a Beer is better than a WomanProject: ad campaign for the famous Bulgarian beer brand Kamenitza. The idea is developed in a series of comic drawings, which explain “Why a beer is better than a woman”. On the left and right end of each poster is the Kamenitza beer bottle cut in half, so that different posters can be joined together to form a sequence similar to comic book episodes. Be-low is an example of three different posters joined together. On each of them: the original brand slogan “Men know why” (in a green square with translucent letters), the thread: “Why a Beer is better than a Woman” (at the top) and the individual answer at the bottom:1. “A beer can always be shared be-tween friends”; 2. “A beer is never jealous of another beer”; 3. “Size really doesn’t matter for a beer” uuu

ETI7 - releasedA trademark designed for a project of the Ministry of Education called “Educational Tool for Integrating In-mates”. The idea pictured here is that the prison cage transforms into a sun. The title is stylised like a ray of that sun. The whole logo is itself shaped as a key. After the logo a schoolbook and a website were created for the same project - www.eti7.org (unfortu-nately it stopped functioning).

It used to be an ancient Greek port with its origi-nal name Apolonia Pontica (that is, “Apollonia on the Black Sea”). Frequency is the name of an independent mu-sic project - collaboration of three DJs: Vector, Stenly and Ataneus, who are close friends of mine. At the beginning of their collaboration they asked me to create and design a logo for Frequency that will become their trademark (you can find it in the “Logos” section, togeth-er with the redesigned version). Later on, they started needing some printed advertisement such as posters and flyers, some of which were again assigned to me. You can see some of them on the right.

Mellow brochuresThree types of front cover, same back. The concept behind the three images is that the festival is happening on three types of locations: street, park and clubs, therefore the grass (park), the yellow pavement (typical for the streets of Sofia) and the loudspeaker (clubs). The concept of the images was not my idea, but everything else about the brochure was - text aligning, timeline chart for the DJs schedule, as well as the specific folding idea.Size: A4 (folding as shown on the right)

EDNO is a famous Bulgarian magazine for urban culture and way of life that in recent years estab-lished itself as a producer of international festivals for contemporary culture and arts. My work for EDNO started in the festival logistics – I was a tour guide for the international artists, speakers and guests coming to Sofia for the above-mentioned festivals. Meanwhile I was spotted by the Director of the festivals who found out that I am a graphic designer, saw my work and invited me to work for the firm as an in-house designer. My job was to fin-ish and adapt the designs made for the magazine and events of EDNO by external agencies. While working there, I had some individual assignments where I had to finish the initial concept or make the whole design from scratch. Some of these projects are presented here, others – in the “Catalogs” sec-tion (ASA Contemporary Dance Performers cata-log; Sofia Design Week catalog; Sofia Dance Week catalog). I have worked for EDNO as a designer in 2011.

One Life - One Car - One Destinyby Boris Marekov

A book jacket of the autobiog-raphy of Boris Marekov, former General Manager of the auto-mobile company MOTO-PFO-HE. The book tells the stories of his life, his passion for cars and the tragic death of his son by a car accident. The theme of the cover, particularly the combina-tion of a fingerprint with a print of a car tyre, is in my opinion a very accurate and original re-flection of the book content. Size: 150x230 mm

Jivko Jeliazkov Kalbasi suMira Marianova

Derida Dance Centre tai jau antrasis jūsų projektas, kurio pavadinimas yra nuoroda į intereneto žargoną.A.S.A.

Спектакълът ASA е част от проекта “Circle: connecting dance practices in Europe” и “Probiotic for the Contemporary dance in Bulgaria”.

The performance ASA is a co-production between EDNO and the dance company Derida Dance. It is the first Bulgarian project for contemporary dance supported by the European Commission’s Culture Programme. ASA’s concept and choreography are by Jivko Jeliazkov, while dancers from all over the globe were selected to perform in the production. ASA is a journey that passes through the various dimensions of our life – ranging from physical, grounded awareness to abstract, cosmic consciousness. What are the new challenges facing our personal organization during the transition from an industrial to an information society? This is just one of the questions this performance raises for the audience. ASA is part of the project „Circle: connecting dance practices in Europe“, in collaboration with “Probiotic for Contemporary Dance in Bulgaria”. The project is financed by the Culture Programme of the European Commission, the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the Sofia Municipality and the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. One of the best productions uniting politics and dance.Theater im Pumpenhaus, Potsdam BIG MOUTH is a performance about the clash between personal and collective identity within Israeli society. The work thematizes the naive wish to belong to a social system while simultaneously remaining true to ourselves, to our impulses and strivings. How do we see life within society – as opportunity or as limitation? BIG MOUTH is a provocative work that raises uncomfortable questions and makes no attempt to be politically correct.
