Alexandra Oddie I am enjoying an Art and Design Interdisciplinary (BA Hons) degree which I specialise in 3D, manipulation of materials and variation of processes. It has always been my passion to teach and had thoughts of teaching from a young age. I would like to go into teaching because I enjoy working with and supporting others to achieve their potential. Currently I am very involved in helping people from my tutorial groups and from my course. I believe that I am a good communicator and have confidence, on a one to one small and large groups of people. I had a four year gap between my A Levels and furthering my education, during this period I worked as a Receptionist, trainee Legal Secretary and a Concession Manager. All of these jobs involved training others and in my Concession Manager role I had my own weekend staff to manage. Time management and good organisational skills were es- sential in these posts. These skills will be invaluable as a teacher. The time away from study allowed me to grow up a great deal through many life experi- ences I have faced. I feel that this has definitely benefitted me and have no regrets in doing a degree at a later stage. Returning to education later has made me a lot more focussed and driven in what I want from life. I feel old enough to have gained a certain maturity and young enough to be a positive role models to pupils. Since June 2010 I have been volunteering at Silcoates School, Wakefield and Kettletho- rpe High School, Wakefield as their support in the Art Department. This involves year 6 through to the 6th form. This breadth of experience confirmed the age range I want to teach, which is secondary. I am thoroughly enjoying my work experience, I give feedback and guidance to individual pupils and introduced tasks to the whole class, which is a responsibility I am very much engaged with. Both teachers and pupils ap- preciate my fresh perspective and knowledge of 3D materials and processes.

Over the past two years I have been part of Light Night Leeds, The International Art-ists’ Book Fair 2009 and the ‘Gide Exhibition’ which was in Lugano, Switzerland Fe-buary 2010. We worked in teams collaborating on projects with students from Scot-land, Spain, Italy and Germany. In summer 2009 I spent three months in South East Asia travelling with two of my friends. Visiting Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia. I appreciate different cultures and lifestyles and I plan to visit other countries as and when I can!

My current project is ‘EXHIBIT AND SHOW’ it is a very open brief which requires a range of processes, strategies and media.
