THE NEW PROPOSED 48-STORY FIVE-STAR HOTEL WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 76,550 SM. THE BUILDING WILL CONTAIN 368 ROOMS INCLUDING: 2 ROYAL SUITES, 5 PRESIDENTIAL SUITES, 5 DIPLOMATIC SUITES, AS WELL AS 440 SM BALLROOM AND PRE-FUNCTION SPACE FOR 200 GUESTS, 2 BOARD ROOMS, PRAYER HALL, RESTAURANTS AT INTERMEDIATE LEVELS, ROTATING RESTAURANT AT ROOF TOP, MEN’S AND WOMEN’S FITNESS CENTER, SWIMMING POOL AND SAUNA, AND JAPANESE GARDEN WITH DANCING WATER FOUNTAIN. THE DESIGN IDEA THAT EMERGED FROM THIS NOTION OF A OASIS WAS THAT OF FABULOUS DINING, RECREATION, LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATIONS AND EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE GATHERED IN ONE PREMIER LOCATION SURROUNDED BY RIPPLING WATERS AND PALM TREES. OUR BUILDING’S FACADES ARE DESIGNED TO REPRESENT THE REFLECTION OF PALM TREES OVER RIPPLING WATER IN THE OASIS.

ARCHITECTURALLY, THE BUILDINGS MOST SIGNIFICANT ELEMENT IS AN EXOSKELETAL PERIMETER FRAME WHICH PROVIDES BOTH VERTICAL AND LATERAL STABILITY AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMBINE ISLAMIC DECORATIVE PATTERNS WITH STRUCTURAL NECESSITY TO INVESTIGATE THE INTERPLAY OF DECORATION AND STRUCTURE AND BLUR THE READING OF BOTH. THE EXOSKELETAL FRAME IS CLAD WITH TWO SEPARATE GLAZING LAYERS, CREATING A VERTICAL SOLAR CHIMNEY IN BETWEEN THE TWO LAYERS.

MIG OFFICE TOWER_______________________________THE EXOSKELETAL FRAME ALLOWS FOR A COLUMN FREE INTERIOR ENVIRONMENT AND A NEAR 360 DEGREE EXTERIOR VIEWS FOR THE BUILDINGS USERS. THE VERTICAL CIRCULATION CORE IS REMOVED FROM THE BUILDING INTERIOR AND PLACED AT THE NARROW END OF THE BUILDING TO ALLOW FOR A VERY FLEXIBLE WORK SPACE INSIDE. THE EXOSKELETAL FRAME IS SHAPED IN THE FORM OF AN ISLAMIC LANTERN THUS CONNECTING THE BUILDING TO ITS CULTURAL CONTEXT.

HALF MOON BAY RESORT_______________________________OUR MASTER PLAN SEEKS TO ENHANCE VIEWS OF THE BEAUTIFUL HALF MOON BAY THROUGHOUT THE DEVELOPMENT. A MAJOR CENTRALLY LOCATED WATER FEATURE GUIDES TRAVELERS THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT AND TOWARD THE ARABIAN GULF. THE MAJOR RESORT HOTEL IS CURVED IN PLAN AND IS LOCATED AT THE TERMINUS OF THE WATER FEATURE AND MAIN DRIVEWAY. THE HOTEL INCLUDES BANQUETING FACILITIES, RESTAURANTS AND SPA/WELLNESS COMPONENTS. TO THE SOUTH OF THE HOTEL ARE ARRAYED A NUMBER OF WATER PARK ELEMENTS ALONG GEOMETRIES THAT REFLECT THE CONCAVE CURVES OF A COVE. THE HALF MOON BEACH ISLAND AT THE CENTER OF THIS COVE IS SURROUNDED BY CANALS, AN AMPHITHEATER/STAGE/OUTDOOR CINEMA, CIRCULAR MARINA, THEME RESTAURANT WITH UNDERWATER AQUARIUM, A THEME LIGHTHOUSE, SEPARATE MALE/FEMALE GYMS AND A WATER SPORTS ZONE WITH CHILDREN’S SHALLOW POOL AREAS. THE ENTIRE MASTER PLAN FOSTERS A STRONG RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN USERS AND THE BEAUTIFUL WATERFRONT SETTING.

_______________________________THE RESORT HOTEL’S ARCHITECTURE DERIVES ITS FORMAL CUES FROM SAILBOATS IN HALF MOON BAY. THE HOTEL IS CURVED IN PLAN TO RESPOND TO THE CONCAVE COVE-LIKE GEOMETRIES DEFINED IN THE MASTER PLAN AND FEATURES A ASS THAT CASCADES DOWN TOWARD THE MAIN LOBBY TO THE EAST, CREATING AN ANGLED PROFILE SIMILAR TO A CRUISE SHIP, WITH THE HIGHER VOLUME POINTING TO THE SEA. EACH STEP FEATURES ITS OWN INFINITY POOL AND CASCADING WATERFALL TO THE LOWER LEVEL. THIS CASCADING WATER FEATURE FOLLOWS AND EXTENDS THE ENTIRE VERTICAL LENGTH OF THE EASTERN FAÇADE. ANCHORING THE BUILDING IS A STAIR AND ELEVATOR TOWER THAT DOUBLES AS A SIGNAGE ELEMENT AT THE SCALE OF THE BUILDING AND IS CAPPED WITH A DRAMATIC LIGHTHOUSE FEATURE AT ITS PEAK ABOVE THE ROOF. THE BUILDING THUS COMBINES NAUTICAL FORMAL FEATURES WITH A CURVED PLAN GESTURE THAT STRENGTHENS THE CONNECTION WITH THE SEA.

WADI HANIFAH DEVELOPMENT_______________________________152,300 SM SITE CONSISTING OF THREE PARCELS, THE SITE IS LOCATED 12.14 KM SOUTHWEST OF DOWNTOWN RIYADH. 2 PARCELS ARE TO BE SUBDIVIDED INTO 19 VILLAS WHERE THE UNITS SIZE IS A 500 SM FOOTPRINT AT 2 STORIES PER UNIT. 1 PARCEL IS TO BECOME A HOUSING COMPOUND WITH RECREATIONAL AREAS FOR 61 RESIDENTIAL UNITS WITH A 200 SM FOOTPRINT AT 2 STORIES PER UNIT. OUR MASTER PLAN CREATES A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO SITES FROM THE HIGH ELEVATION TO THE SOUTH TO THE LOWER ELEVATION SITE TO THE NORTH BY USING WALKWAYS TO NEGOTIATE THE HILL. A NATURAL VALLEY SEPARATES THE HIGHER TWO SITES, WE SPANNED THIS VALLEY WITH A PAIR OF LEAF SHAPED WALKING BRIDGES. WE ALSO UTILIZED THE HILLS TOPOGRAPHY TO CREATE MEANDERING WALKING PATHS TO THE LOWER PARCEL TO FURTHER CONNECT THE 3 SITES. THE HOUSING COMPOUND IS IDENTIFIED BY A MAJOR PORTE COCHERE THAT FRAMES AN ENTRY PLAZA. A JOINT USE RECREATIONAL FACILITY IS ACCESSIBLE DIRECTLY FROM THE MAIN ENTRY PLAZA AND AVAILABLE TO BOTH THE COMPOUND AND THE SOUTHERN PARCELS VIA WALKING PATHS AND A BRIDGE CONNECTION. THE GEOMETRY OF THE MASTER PLAN IS INSPIRED BY THE FIGURE OF THE ARABIAN ORYX WITH ITS LONG HORNS.

WADI HANIFAH DEVELOPMENT_______________________________THE ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTER OF THE BUILDINGS IS A MODERN INTERPRETATION OF THE MOROCCAN ‘RED’ STYLE, A TRADITIONAL SOPHISTICATED RESIDENTIAL STYLE. THE BUILDINGS ARE CONCEIVED AS AN INTERPLAY OF RECTANGULAR VOLUMES THAT CREATE TERRACES AND CASCADING FORMS THAT ALLOW FOR OPPORTUNITIES FOR RAISED BALCONIES, AND EXPANSIVE VERANDAS. SUN CONTROL DEVICES SUCH AS PERGOLAS AND TRELLISES ARE SYSTEMATICALLY USED TO MITIGATE THE EFFECTS OF THE HARSH CLIMATE AND TO CREATE A RICH INTERPLAY OF BEAUTIFUL SHADOWS. OUR MASTER PLAN IS TO LOCATE THE NAJRAN TOWN CENTER ON AXIS OF THE NEW AIRPORT BUILDING, FACILITATING VISUAL AND PEDESTRIAN CONNECTION. ALL FUNCTIONS ARE ORGANIZED AROUND A RADIAL FAN-SHAPED PLAN. THE RADIAL PLAN GEOMETRY OF THE MARKET EMBRACES A MAJOR CENTRAL PARK THAT PROVIDES RELIEF TO THE RESIDENT AS WELL AS A CIVIC SPACE: A VENUE FOR CULTURAL, COMMERCIAL AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES. DODGERS STADIUM RENOVATION_______________________________THE MASTER PLAN DIVIDES THE SITE’S SURFACE INTO SIX ZONES. THE FIVE OUTER ZONES ARE DESIGNATED FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT AND ALLEVIATE THE PARKING WITHIN THE INNER ZONE. THE INNER ZONE IS DELINEATED BY A NEW 6 LANE RING ROAD THAT CONTAINS THE BALLPARK, NEW GREEN PLAY PARKS, NEW SURFACE PARKING, AND A NEW PARKING STRUCTURE WITH DIRECT ACCESS TO APPROPRIATE SEATING LEVELS. AUTOMOBILE ACCESS TO THE INNER RING PARKING HAS BEEN WIDENED TO ALLEVIATE AUTOMOBILE TRAFFIC. PEDESTRIAN ACCESS TO THE PARK IS AVAILABLE VIA A PROPOSED PEOPLE MOVER TRAM FROM THE SOUTH EAST CONNECTED TO A NEW METRO STATION. THEY CONTAIN A 9000 SF DODGERS MUSEUM , A 9000 SF FUN ZONE, TWO 1000 SF RETAIL KIOSKS, (2) 3700 SF RESTAURANTS AND A (2) 4200 SPONSORED PAVILIONS. DESIGN CONCEPT: DODGER VICTORY PLAZA IS ANCHORED BY THE DODGER GATE THAT OFFERS GLIMPSES INTO THE BALLPARK AND ACCESS INTO IT FOR SPECIAL EVENTS AND VICTORY PARADES. THE ENTIRE NORTHERN FACADE OF THE EXISTING BALLPARK IS RENOVATED. ITS CENTERPIECE: A LARGE DOUBLE SIDED SPONSORED LED SCREEN FOR INSTANT REPLAYS AND MESSAGES. THIS LARGE SCREEN ALLUDES TO THE FILMIC STRIP AND HOLLYWOOD ANDHELPS IT TIE BACK THE BALLPARK TO THE CITY OF ANGELS. WE PROPOSE TO CONSTRUCT A NEW LUXURY RIGHT AND LEFT OUTFIELD PAVILION SEATING, TO CONSTRUCT TO LEVELS OF FAMILY STADIUM BOXES, AND A HISTORIC RECONSTRUCTION OF GOOGIE STYLE CANOPIES. THIS WILL ALLOW FOR THE INTER-CONNECTION OF THE CLUB LEVEL CONCOURSE ACROSS THE ENTIRE STADIUM STRUCTURE RESULTING IN SYNERGY AND ENHANCED RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES. FINALLY WE PROPOSE TO CONSTRUCT AN ICONIC SPONSORED PAVILION WHEN EXISTING THE SOUTH STADIUM ENTRY. THE SOUTHERN SPONSORED PAVILION AT THE SITE’S HIGH POINT WOULD OFFER UNEQUALED 360 DEGREE VIEWS OF THE LA BASIN IDEAL FOR CIVIC GATHERINGS AND PRESS CONFERENCES.

[DESIGN-BUILD, FIRST PLACE]_______________________________THE NEW AUTO TECH BUILDING IS APPROXIMATELY 35,477 GSF AND IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE EAST FACE OF THE EXISTING AUTO TECH BUILDING. THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE NEW AUTO TECH BUILDING WAS TO SPLIT THE MASS OF THE BUILDING INTO THREE NORTH-SOUTH LAYERS OF VARYING HEIGHT AND DIMINISH THE IMPOSING MASS OF THE BUILDING. BY DOING THIS THE ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENTS ARE MORE RELATABLE TO A HUMAN SCALE. THE LANDSCAPE/SITE IMPROVEMENTS ENHANCE THE EXTERIOR SPACES AND OVERALL CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT BY CREATING A “PASEO”. THIS “PASEO” BECOMES THE NEW NEXUS OF PEDESTRIAN CONNECTION BETWEEN THE CAMPUS MALL TO THE EAST AND THE FUTURE GREEN TECHNOLOGY BUILDING.

THE VICTORIAN FILIGREE AND DECORATIVE DETAILING MITIGATE THE EASTERN AND WESTERN EXPOSURES TO THE SUN IN THE FORM OF STYLIZED LOUVER PANELS HUNG FROM EDGE TRUSSES RUNNING NORTH-SOUTH. THE MISSION-STYLE ELEMENTS FRAME THE CENTRAL VICTORIAN SHED TO THE EAST AND WEST AND ENGAGE IT WITH THE MISSION-STYLE OF THE CAMPUS.

THE SITE STRATEGY OF THIS PROJECT IS DRIVEN BY TWO MAIN PATHWAYS, ALUMNI WALK AND VICTORY WALK. THE BUILDING PROVIDES A CONGREGATION AREA UNDER THE CANOPY WHERE THESE TWO PATHWAYS INTERSECT. THE PURPOSE OF THE ALUMNI WALK IS TO PRESERVE THE MEMORY BY INSCRIBING ALUMNI NAMES ON THE CONCRETE STONE. VICTORY WALK’S PURPOSE IS TO CELEBRATE ACHIEVMENTS WHERE RECOGNIZED ATHLETES’ NAMES WILL BE INSCRIBED. THE POINT WHERE THESE TWO SEGMENTS MEET HAS A TROPHY CASE REACHING OUT TO THE VISITORS.

THE MAIN ENTRY TO THE BUILDING IS CELEBRATED USING A ROOF FORM THAT SYMBOLIZES A MONARCH, WHICH IS THE SCHOOL’S MASCOT. THE BUILDING TAKES ITS FORM FROM THE SURROUNDING BUILDINGS.

THEREFORE, THE DESIGN REDEFINED THE REQUESTED 500 SF LOBBY INTO A 4,000 SF LOBBY TO MEET THE OWNER’S REQUEST. THE VISITOR IS WECOMED IMMEDIATELY BY A DOUBLE HEIGHT LOBBY THAT LITERALLY SHOWS WHERE EACH DEPARTMENT IS LOCATED. THE DEPARTMENT PLANNING IN SOME WAYS RESEMBLES THE WAYFINDING OF A SHOPPING MALL.

THE STUDENT UNION BUILDING IS APPROXIMATELY 76,689 GSF AND IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE EAST FACE OF THE LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER. THE SPS/HEALTH CENTER BUILDING IS APPROXIMATELY 9,577 GSF AND IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE NORTH FACE OF THE PE/WELLNESS BUILDING. THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE STUDENT UNION BUILDING WAS TO CREATE A LARGE “PORCH” AS THE FOREFRONT FOR THE SOCIAL EPICENTER OF THE CAMPUS. A GRAND STAIR ACTS AS THIS BACKDROP WHILE IS SHELTERED BY THE 3RD FLOOR BANQUET HALL ABOVE. THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE SPS BUILDING WAS TO CREATE A HIGHLY VISIBLE ENTRY AND PROVIDE PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AN UNOBSTRUCTED COVERED PATH FROM THE NORHT SIDE OF THE CAMPUS TO THE PE/WELLNESS BUILDING.

THE SITE STRATEGY OF THIS PROJECT IS DRIVEN BY A LANDSCAPING PLAN THAT REINFORCES THE MAIN EAST-WEST AND NORTH-SOUTH AXES WHICH ARE SOFTENED BY THE ADJACENT NATURAL “ARROYO” AND PLANTINGS. THE NORTH-SOUTH PEDESTRIAN LINKAGES ARE STRENGTHENED WITH ENHANCED WAY-FINDING WITHIN THE CAMPUS TO DIRECT FOOT TRAFFIC BETWEEN BUILDINGS. A CIRCULATOIN PATH THAT ORIGINATES AT THE ASTRONOMY PLAZA SPINS OFF LIKE A COMET THROUGH THE SOUTH END OF THE PLAZA AND CONTINUES SOUTHWESTERLY THROUGH THE CENTRAL GREEN TO LINK UP WITH THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF THE SPS/HEALTH CENTER. MAKING THESE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN BUILT ELEMENTS OF THE SAILS PROJECT ENHANCES THE MASTER PLAN GEOMETRY.

USC HERITAGE HALL RENOVATION_______________________________OUTDOOR GATHERING IS COMPLEMENTED BY LOUNGE SEATING WITH UMBRELLAS. NEAR THE NEWLY CLADDED SAAS BUILDING IS A FOUNTAIN FRAMED BY TWO DISPLAY WALLS. WOODS PLAZA WILL PLAY A CRITICAL ROLE AS AN OUTDOOR TRANSITION FROM THE NEW MCKAY CENTER TO THE HERITAGE HALL. TO ENHANCE THE CONNECTION, PAVING PATTERNS ARE ALIGNED WHICH THEN IS USED AS A GUIDELINE TO ORGANIZE GROUPS OF FURNITURES. WITHIN THE INTERIOR, J.THOMAS MCCARTHY HEISMAN LOBBY WILL DISPLAY VARIOUS ACHIEVEMENTS AND NEWS OF THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AS A WHOLE. USC’S OUTSTANDING 6 HEISMAN TROPHIES ARE HIGHLIGHTED AT THE CORE OF THE MUSEUM SPACE AMONG OTHERS.

SANTA MONICA COLLEGE - PAC_______________________________THE NEW SANTA MONICA COLLEGE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER WILL BE 19,742 GSF. THE BUILDING WILL CONTAIN A 4,000 SF MUSIC HALL THAT OPENS TO THE ADJACENT PLAZA THROUGH A 50FT SLIDING ACOUSTICAL NANO WALL. THIS WILL INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE PLAZA FOR EVENT OVERFLOW AND ALLOW FOR AN ASSEMBLY AREA TO SUPPLEMENT THAT OF THE EXISTING THEATER. THE BUILIDNG ENVELOPE WAS CONCEIVED IN AN EFFORT TO COMPLEMENT THE EXISTING ICONIC THEATER BY UTILIZING SIMILAR BUILDING MATERIALS AND ALLOWING A TRANSPARENCY INTO THE PERFORMING SPACE FROM THE OUTSIDE.

A MASTERPLAN STUDY WAS CONSIDERED AS WELL FOR FUTURE EXPANSION ON THE PROPERTY. THE EXPANSION WOULD ACCOMODATE ON-SITE OFFICES FOR THEATER STAFF AS WELL AS UNDERGROUND PARKING. THE DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THIS PARTICULAR SCHEME WAS TO CREATE A GREEN ROOF AND A LARGE SLOPED LAWN FOR VISITORS TO GATHER ON. AMONG OTHER SITE IMPROVMENTS WOULD BE INTEGRAL BENCHES AND A UNIQUE PAVING/LANDSCAPE PATTERN TO REFLECT THE UNIQUE APPEARENCE OF THE ICONIC BROAD THEATER. A NEW CORNER SIGN WILL ENGAGE PASSERBYERS NOT ONLY AS A MONUMENT SIGN FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER BUT ALSO WITH A LARGE LED SCREEN SHOWING CLIPS OF PAST AND UPCOMING PERFORMANCE’S.
