Micro Dwelling Behavioral Setting Industrial Design Ends 115

Micro Dwelling

Within the next few decades population is estimated to increase tremendously. The purpose of this project was to create a small residence in which we maximized space but kept a comfortable living environment. I chose to design a very small somewhat rectangular home that provided living area with little unnecessary space. The shape allows for the house to be built on a lot with many other homes so it may be an apart-ment or condo. This dwelling would be located in Gatlinburg, Tennesse where the weather is consistent and mild. The roof of this micro dwelling is designed to flow with the rest of the house and allows for light to come in at major sides to keep an open-ness within the dwelling.

Behavioral Setting

The intention of this project was to build a home that is energy efficient, ADA compliant, and allows for two people to live comfortably. The plot of land intended for this dwelling is on a site with a lake. My design originated from the idea of a “grand entrance” within a Victorian home. I created a tall entry and designed the rest of the house around that. The house has a good view of the lake from the living room, hobby room, and kitchen and allows much light to come in through the living room on the North. There is also an out-door patio for more seating and a better view of the lake.

Industrial Design

The purpose of this project was to use our creativity to design a unique piece of furni-ture that could be considered art. Some of the requirements of this project were building it without nails, screws, or glue and also having the ability to take apart our design and have it shipped flat. In my design I took the idea of a bookshelf and turned it into an ir-regular shaped bookshelf. Because books tend to fall over, the design of the shelves are convienent. I also added a triangular drawer because I liked the look of incorporating dif-ferent shapes within the design. Not only can it be used as a bookshelf but it also can be transformed into a table. I used teeth and slots in the wood to piece it all together.
