The Heritage Pavilion Project required us to convey an aspect of our heritage. We created a collage to represent our heritage visually, and then abstracted our collage into an installation to represent it three-dimensionally. After building the model, we built our model in SketchUp. The Heritage Pavillion was an installation to be placed in the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, TX.

The Heritage Center Project was our first major commercial design project. We were given the shell of a building, and were required to create blocking plans, to space plan, and to choose two spaces to build in SketchUp. It was in this project that we learned the basic ADA codes and requirements for commercial spaces. We finished this project by hand rendering the two spaces we built in SketchUp.

In our Illustration class we completed four illustrations of interiors. It was in this class that I was able to improve my hand skills and learn how to draw like a designer. After taking this course, I know that I would like to continue hand rendering in the future.

Residential DESIGN

The Garbrecht Residence was our first residential design project. We worked in groups at the beginning of the project, creating our client and defining their aesthetic preferences. We then space planned both floors. We were required to complete illustrations and materials boards for three rooms.

During my semester in Italy, I took a class on shop design. For this project, we were asked to design a shop that was flexible and compatible to different types of spaces. The shop would be for Camper, one of the largest shoe retailers in Europe. We submitted our projects for a school-wide art competition, called ‘The art is in the Street.’ My design for Camper won 2nd place for the entire Interior Design Department.

Retail design

For my Honors Thesis, I designed a Louis Vuitton store to be placed in Florence, Italy. I researched the intricate branding techniques of LV and designed a store that was unique to the location, but in keeping with the integrity of the brand. I used a ‘guerilla marketing’ concept for the store; I placed LV bags into one of Florence’s most famous paintings, Botticelli's Birth of Venus. In this, I was very literally merging the brand with what I considered the essence of Florence.

The Well is a gathering place for the community of Mineral Wells. Including an apothecary, a coffee/tea shop, and various community work spaces, The Well meets the health and social needs of its visitors. It embodies the essence of collaboration through its adaptability to change. The space is built to be interactive: items such as the massive chalk wall have the ability to be personalized or changed according to the desires of the user. Just as a well is used as source of life and community, this space will unify and REVIVE the town of Mineral Wells.
