SPACES FOR ART Autumn 2013

The aim of the task for this contemporary architecture course was to create an exhibition building including five exhibition areas, a cafeteria and an auditorium. The project is located near existing art gallery, close to the city center of Oulu. Implementation is streamlined, one piece-like shape. In the middle of the building there is a covered art work yard, which around visitorswill walk during exhibition.

Facade is made of perforated steel which let light pass through it at some points. There are larger glass openings from where light enters to exhibition areas. I tried to create a variety of exhibition spaces for different kind of arts. Cafeteria is situated in a sunny location where you can see the creek and people passing by.

PUBLIC BUILDING

For the Public building course in BME, Budapest, the task was first to analyze the given area and then create something there will be neened. My project was music bar-restaurant. Area was near Sziket island which is famous about Sziket festivals every summer. I wanted to give life to the empty areas around the bridge and bring people near Danube river.

This imaginative project was to create new rooms, space and useful solutions in terms of structures to the traditional rintamamiestalo. This project was done in pairs. Our idea was to maintain old structures as much as possible and use natural materials, like wood fiber wool. Facade stayed quite untouched, but interior changed more, in particular on the 1st floor and in the basement.

For contemporary architecture course we designed house for six artistsincluding small public cafeteria and exhibition areas. My plan was a long mass, which reaches out over the sea. All the existing buildings around the area are white, so I decided to continue this idea too. Atmosphere is sea-like and views around and inside of the building arefascinating.

House Weckman has been originally private house and is nowadays used as a school. We discovereda new program for the building. I wanted to open the building for everyone and thought that House Weckman will offer luxurious settings for an exhibition center near city center of Oulu. You can get to the exhibition area using the stairswhich are climbing around a round shaped elevator and through the courtyard side of the stairs. A public cafeteria is placed on the flat roof, and covered with a wooden roof.

Urban planning and design course task was to create layout-level land and planning taking into account existing urban structure and the surroundings. The main theme of my region was park area in the hearh of the whole area, which weaves through the area from an urban milieu ending to the general park zone.

For bachelor’s degree the aim task was to plan residential building which was situated into the urban planning course area. The main idea was to create wooden facade residential building, where balconies were embedded to the facade. The shape of the building is upwarding, which creates one and half floor high flats to the top floor. Material of the facade is from the courtyard side warm wood and from the street side grizzled wood. There is a big balcony zone in the end of the building from where you can see evening sun.

For conctruction building course we made all the structures and some details about resi-dential building. Pictures are from concrete building in which hollow-core slabs are used for most of thefloors. Street facade looks very simple for purpose.
