List of Projects
Entry for the Bank of America Affordable Housing Challenge.
As part of a 6 person interdisciplinary team, I took the architectural lead to produce a 90 unit affordable housing development.
Designed as a connection between wood and concrete, the Aria provides living spaces for low to extremely low income households. The Aria is part of the greater Sym-phony Towers complex, which includes workforce and luxury apartments, a community center, rooftop gardens, street-level shopping, and resident parking.

The increasing number of students vying for the limited study space and computers of the Cal Poly library has resulted in constant overcrowding. The annex was designed to address this issue.
The program includes more lounge space, classrooms, offi ces, open studios, and late night restaurants. Color, glass, solar screens, and a dramatic structure were explored in this project.

This pavilion was inspired by the material palette and physical vocabulary of SUB Architects. The pavilion is sunken into the slope of a bluff and looks out onto a coastal landscape. A white chimney tower anounces the project from every angle.

Once home to the largest rail industry on the west coast, the Sacramento Railyards are 240 acres of derelict property currently undergoing renovation. The acreage will expand the downtown core with shopping, housing, and business developments.
This plaza is designed as a formal greeting to pedestrians and shoppers. The earth is scooped away to form two inverted hills. This allows a central pathway to become a bridge where one can walk beneath the canopies of massive oaks.

The Plaza was one of the fi nal pieces that developed from numerous pre-design projects, which included: a furniture piece, a detailed section, paintings, poetry, and a nature installation.
Floor Plan Diagram
This project was a development of the Pavilion using the same site with a different program.
Now, two concrete boxes are nestled into the bluff. Theatrical spans of glass provide panaramonic views of the surrounding landscape and an array of screened skylights allow light to penetrate across both masses. A volumetric aluminum screen shades the central courtyard that joins the two masses.

South ElevationTaking direction from the Surrealists, this museum is internally focused with limited apertures. Floors, ceilings, and walls take part in the distorting experience and the most dramatic elevation is cloaked in a fl oating skin of stone and concrete.

The museum windows are composed from an array of horizontal insulating acrylic tubes which are sandwiched between two glass panes. When viewed from the inside, the outside world becomes distorted and semi-pixelated allowing even the window frames to participate in the experience.
Chapel at the Abingdon RuinsAlexandria, VA4th Year
Site Plan
The ruins of the Abingdon Plantation sit atop a hill overlooking the Reagan National Airport. Below the hill lie canyon-like spaces excavat-ed to form a meditative path. One enters the path from either above or below the hill into semi-darkness. Guided by sensory clues the inhabitant rediscovers the ruins as chapels. The water, the ground, and the light collect at a point between the two chapels, whichcreates a neutral contemplative space.

An experimental mark-maker. Two universal joints allow pendulums to swing at different arcs. This difference continously changes the contact points between pencil and paper, which creates a new scribble each time.

Exploratory incisions into a hard cover book led the development of the slipcase. A vocabulary of cut planes and skewers pull away to loosely define the case.
