A new expression of educational space: art, architecture and design all merging beneath a facade. An unusual indoor exhibition, a store with exclusive products , a runway and a spectacular roof garden.Located in Salamanca district, in the centre of Madrid, FDCity overlooks a large urban artery, positioned already in the eyes, mind and senses of the visitor. All buildings have their own distinct quality and it is useful to work with it, in order to understand the original position and character of them, avoiding to face them with preconceived ideas. In a fashion school it is clear that one must find working areas, design spaces, lecture rooms and storage spaces. But apart from these when one studies the needs and the ways that people interpret space, then a far more complex program emerges. A fashion school is now seen as a deliquate yet multifunctional entity, which attracts and surprises the vistor not onlt fro outside but also in it´s interior.
“A building within a building”The new construction is permeable, open to the outside, yet with an intimate part hidden in it, which is to be experienced in the interior of the buikding. It is a female. A continuous mix between public and private, between the outgoing and the intimate. These two worlds coexist, with their meanings being discovered by the people once they are inside. The core of vertical communication is the joint of the project. This joint is the connection between these two worlds, in both vertical and hori-zontal directions. Horizontally in each plant and vertically in the constant relationship between the patio, the staircase, the hollow...
Space dialogue-personal dialogue. The design allows the use of huge variations through the open distri-bution of its plans with the creation of open and independent spaces for complex overlapping activities. Parallel actions through open struc-tures, give the possibility of integrative functions. Cozy places where people meet ,talk and exchange ideas. Rich architectural spaces with few formal elements . With the precise use of sustainable materials. With pleasant paths searching for light and perspectives, creating pow-erful volumetric masses which overlap each other creating a scheme of four stages visually connected, containing all the common uses and the four modules of independent classrooms that nest in each level.

Glass surfaces, cracks in the concrete and in the gaze,
continuous weightlessness, messy rooms and feelings.
The myth of the exceptional . Geometry games,
subtly positioned figures that break the daily routine,
joined with the strong expression of visions that seem distant,
while the marks of the time remain.

School project
Location Madrid, Spain
The project brief demanded a Cultural and Occupational Centre for disabled people. Point of departure is a plot lo-cated at Avenida de Europa n ° 35 in Las Matas, Madrid.
The plot´s perimeter is surrounded by a wall which in-cludes two existing buildings, simple, industrial, totally open and empty, with angled roofing.
Initially there was only the possibility of using the two ex-isting buildings for new uses, but in need of more space to host the program, new spaces were proposed as an
extension and unification of both buildings. It is rather pointless to mention that the intention was to protect and preserve the existing buildings, as well as to integrate them in the final outcome.A large entrance hall announces the merge of the two existing buildings in one, while giving uses to the central core along with a succession of new spaces that will shape the project´s programme. Searching for volumes marked by an architecture that will leave spatial paterns, easily identifiable through their shape and form.
All these spatial containers will be unified by a large outer shell that melts them in a single set, although each space preserves its own character, mainly due to the type of function developing inside.
The integration of different architectural volumes re-minds us that we are all different and that those differ-ences make us special, all living together as social beings in harmony.

ClassroomsEducation. This is the main objective of this cen-tre. And through education we will arrive to
the integration. The classrooms are linearly ar-ranged, oriented to the south so as to maxi-
mize natural light. To achieve this, the roof gains height from the entrance and ends up merging with the large window that takes up the entire front facade, which in its turn opens also in the
two side facades. Aiming in an absolute contact with the natural environment, the student feels that all is one, and he is also a part of this. That fusion is intensified by the asymmetric structure of the library, which gains altitude and faces directly the window that visually communicates with the outside. The room also opens laterally with two large windows to the interior courtyards, in which local trees are planted. The materials used are also in line with the idea of integrating with the environment, wooden panels for walls and ceilings, wooden asymmetric structures resembling the forest trees, all will make the
student feel the warmth of noble materials.
The integration will be encouraged through the group work of the students. For this purpose class-rooms will be equipped only with a collective work table where students can constantly see what their peers do, support, exchange ide-as, all what working in a group consists of. It is through the very act of working together that they will develop their individual skills, while pre-paring for new social obligations and activities.

AUDITORIUM
The inclusion of an auditorium in the project aims in the creation of a theater workshop for the students and for a place where various groups, in a broader range, could present their work. This workshop seeks to strengthen the skills of students when facing the public, ultimately the society, so as not be afraid nor ashamed to show themself as they are.We fled away from the stereotype of the traditional halls and theaters, as we opte for a cosy space in the line of the rest of the project. Our goal is that the students feel identified with the philosophy transmitted through the working spaces. The common seats used in this type of spaces are replaced by benches with colored cushions that create a visual mosaic visible from the scene, creat-ing a friendly atmosphere between the public and the students-actors.The warmth of the space is accentuated by the use of wood in its interior coating. Asymmetric wooden walls, exposed structure of plywood, indirect lighting, back-lit ceiling, all continue in line of the decoration con-cept that is used in the rest of the project. Besides these, the theatre workshop space is used also as a hall for lectures and seminars focusing in the train-ing of industry professionals and as a screening room. The possible use of the hall by outsiders will serve in strenghtening the relationship between students and people from other cultural environments. The fact of being a disabled student should not mean that you can only related with persons facing similar dis-abilities.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL EXPO ROOM
The spacious expo room, formed by an hexagonal cell, makes the visitor know perfectly what is the place where he steps,
¨a beehive¨.
What is a beehive? In our project is the space dedicated to the exhibition of the work performed by the students, all proud of their work to be admired by fellows and visitors. It’s a way to promote self-esteem considering that the students will be acclaimed for their daily efforts, feeling compelled to keep learning. The hexagonal cells of the wall are repeated both indoors and outside of the room, illuminated by the backlight within the structure. Our hive is the identifying sign of the project. Just imagine this volume with its own light in the darkness of the night. Indirect light-ing provided by walls in their full height is reinforced during the day by natural light coming through the courtyard and the transparent facade. The integration of the project with the surrounding envi-ronment continues within the exhibition hall with the crea-tin of a vertical garden in the interior patio. We use the term hive metaphorically to teach students that as in nature nothing is a coincidence, with work and effort they can get everything.

In a cube of 12x12x12m we must fit a program for a nightclub, transmit-
ing sensations to people from both inside and outside. Inspired by Le Corbusier´s ¨ Unite d’habitation ¨ ,the section is articulated with dou-ble heights while the central aisle´s colourful character , is the starting point of our proposal. Through these two double height spaces we or-ganize the different environments of the club, from quiet ground floor, to the upper zone of dancing and to the central part of the building, the ¨¨heart¨ of the project, that corridor of colours, shapes and textures that beat on their own ... that pump blood which generate the entire project life. Such is it´s conceptual strength that manages to branch into the rest project areas like arteries and veins, with visitors being attracted by light shapes and colours before their access to the club, a heart to be observed. Different environments created are linked by light lines that run throughout, born in the third floor ceiling and moving down the double height of the dance floor, to the DJ booth and the vertical stair-case. The three bars are placed in different environments, while backlit beamlines unite them. This light game is visible from the outside, due to the totally transparent facade, while also felt from the inside, guiding us through our inner journey leading to the nerve centre of the project. Curved forms, functional spaces, sensual, electric colours, sinuous and attractive light lines, all act as a magnet, inviting us to enter a world of new sensations, to perceive a world of new sensations, to experi-ment, instinctively get carried away by our five senses.
When the sun goes down a dim light is born every night, indicating the path to follow, to experience new sensations never known before by our body and mind.

Moving away from the stereotypical pub with live jazz music where one would expect to find a stage with the public in front of it, the idea is
a jazz club that public, stage and musicians are fully integrated into a sinuous proposal that this or-ganic architecture presents.
This logic is visible from the facade, where two curved walls invite us to get in, without revealing the inside activity. Straight into the ¨S¨ shaped hallway, cir-culations lead to the three separate of the club, mys-tified by the sound of music.
The hallway divides the space in two parts, with the stage in the centre of the right part, totally integrated with the circular tables that host the public, merging tables and stage in the same, single piece, while the collumns that were already there are also integrated. To the left part a terrace where visitors can sit, enjoy a drink and live music. The sinuous shape of the hall way is repeated to the terraces as if an amphithea-tre.Musicians and public are becoming one through their constant interaction and proximity.

We found a rectangular space, with a small facade in length and great depth, with a single entrance. It should be able to ac-commodate a clientele of 45-50 people. Apart from the front facade, light enters only through the back of the room from a patio. For this and also due to the length of the space, we will place the four wet rooms and the stores in the rear. The neutral facade represents the tranquillity and the atmosphere we want the restaurant to have. The only entrance in the centre of the facade takes us to the central hallway, a distributor of spaces. That corridor - street matches the longitudinal axis of the res-taurant and embraces the atmosphere created in the restau-rant.The central street divides space: Ancient and Modern Japan. We will enjoy the visual clash of historical memories with mod-ern decorative atmosphere. The ancient culture, sophistica-tion, delicacy of Japanese world...Everything will be present when you get in.On the left, the simplicity and beauty of a traditional Japanese facade is recreated, standing in front of the sushi kitchen-bar as if it was an everyday street. To the right are placed the ta-bles and seating area, similar to the style of a modern Japa-nese restaurant. The wall finishes of with black stones, simu-lating irregular fish scales while the separation between tables uses cherry trees to remind us the delicacy and tranquillity of Japanese culture. The wood used on both sides of the hall tries to unify the spirit of old and modern. The ways of cutting and polishing of wood cutting on hand is an evidence of it, all done based to traditional forms, seen with great sensuality, en-hanced with cherry blossoms, inhaling the five human senses.Unified with a continuous pavement of coloured resins that re-flect the direct and indirect lighting of a local abundance, helps to highlight the different atmospheres because of its low inten-sity. The lighting is what will guide us on a tour to the premises. The doors of wet rooms mix use of modern glass with tradi-tional images of Japan, following the conceptual nature of the project.Basically it has tried to create a traditional-modern fusion, cre-ating a welcoming space in which, despite the small size of it, there is a feeling of intimacy. When you walk through the door we invite you to a journey not only into a distant culture, but also in an inpiring journey for all five senses.

The goal is to establish the first Van der Vam chain store, dedicated to high-end jewellery, in one of the most exclu-sive areas of Madrid, having the main facade on Serrano street and the secondary facade on Goya. The position-ing of the local premises clearly indicates the segment of the target group for our product. We intend to cre-ate a store that embodies the corporate image previ-ously established, without forgeting that besides the customer the most important for us is the jewel, shown in all its glory, given the importance that really deserves.
The store has two floors, the main street entrance and a basement. The surface distributed on the main floor is 136m2 and 72 m2 in the basement.. The entrance floor has two street showcases to 8.5 m y 5.9m. In addition to the main entrance, from Serrano street there is also a secondary ac-cess to the portal of the patio. The basement in its current state lacks any kind of natural lighting. This space, despite its few square meters, posses all the conditions needed to create our first store showing a distinctive profile. Do not forget that in order to attract the potential customer it is im-portant to show that profile itself in the concept of our store.
Our goal is to immerse the costumer in a space of special atmosphere just past the door of our shops. The competi-tive business of high-end jewellery requires us to create a different space, which will be our badge of corporate im-age, where the client will feel transported to our world, to our own universe of luxury and exclusivity. The jewel adds value to the spaces created for its exhibition. That spatial wealthiness and architecture will be our identity signal.
Our stores are characterized by the intelligent use of space and light. Our mission is to show our particular museum. Our stores will be that, small museums where wealth and carefully illuminated spaces are created to expose our little crafts of art, the true stars, while not for-geting that the customer will also feel the protagonist.

The necesity, and the obligation, of maintaining all the facades surrouding the residence, leads us to an almost
spontaneous consideration of it as a shelter of life, capable with its future transformation, to host uses which are absent now, and intensify the total experience of its inhabitance. The description of the basic compositional approaches and elements will be done by unveiling a level-to-level narration, underlining at the same moment their basic connecting element; the staircase and its de-sign treatment. Following a similar logic with the rest of the residence´s levels, as we will soon see, our primer design decision, is the removal of plenty existing vertical elements, and their replacement with either load bearing walls or cross-ing beams. The unified ground floor space, with the main
staircase visible on its center, is defined by succesive privacy relations. From the most private space, the small study place on the upper left, to the welcome zone adja-cent to the interior vertical garden. A garden which stands out as the perfect scenery for the bar in which hosts and guest spend their first moments together. Having in our mind the compositional charm of the staircase, which now is revealed on its side through a complex steel grid, we can proceed to the main, less private space, the living room. With a unifying design move, the floor is elevated, following a curved form which ends in concentrating all the movements, while enclosing the space of everyday life. The focus of this space is given to the open fireplace, which thanks to their bioethanol technology, meet no need for a chimney. In the perimeter of the fireplace, one can find the two large sofas and the main dining room, both in a significant visual position, but also with an open view to the rest of the residence.

In the first floor we place the majority of the spacious bed-rooms, composed by a main bedroom and two smaller ones, all equiped with a private washroom, a wardrobe, a bath and a sleeping area. In all three bedrooms we follow a common design approach; the bedroom is not seen as a unified, balanced space, but rather as a system of compex spatial relations, both vertically and horizontally, which offers an experience of succesion. Summarizing, the bedroom consists of two separate zones, which from now on will be named as the service zone and the pleas-ure zone. The service zone, the first to meet when enter-ing the room, hosts the washroom, the wardrobe and the powder room, which combined with the use of warm ma-terials welcome the resident and provide an immediate sense of intimacy. Two steps higher, behind a single wall, we enter the pleasure zone. The main design element is the contradiction between the large bed and the open bathe, a meeting of liquid and earth elements, where re-flections, sounds and perfumes, elide the resident from the rest of the environment. Moreover, in the main bed-room one can meet a small study place and the possibility of enjoying warm food coming straight from the kitchen.
