Both the petrol driven LD-1P and electric drivenLD-2E rail drills from Cembre have beenspecifically designed for use in railwayapplications providing consistently accuratework whatever the weather conditions.Compact in size, these drills afford considerabletime savings by allowing direct operation incases which previously have entailed armamentremoval. The portable BB3 is suitable for all types ofinstallation and maintenance programmes.

The pin brazing process of the unit iselectronically controlled to provide totalconsistency and is pre-programmed to threesettings. The relevant setting is shown on eachpack of brazing pins. When the correct setting isselected on the control panel, the process isautomatically timed to provide an optimumbrazed connection. If required, it is also possibleto use brazing pins with a fuse wire.

The high power batteries can easily berecharged from a mains supply. The batterycapacity is sufficient for approximately 150brazes using the smallest type of brazing pin.

About Cold ExpansionRailway track is continually subjected to high cyclictensile loads generated by the passage of rollingstock over joints. Flexing and displacement of rails atbolted joints, combine to induce high tensile loads atthe bolt hole which often generates fatigue cracks. Ifleft undetected, these fatigue induced cracks can leadto fractures which in extreme cases could cause trainderailment. The cracking of rail-end bolt holes hasbeen a major concern for years and a cause ofpremature rail replacement, imposition of speedrestrictions and is a significant factor in rail inspectionand maintenance costs. Increased rolling stock loadsand heavier rail traffic has made it even moreessential to eliminate fatigue cracks and preventpotential costly derailments. Fatigue Technology’s(FTI) RailTec System substantially increases the life ofbolted rail by shielding bolt holes from the stressesthat cause cracks and failure. FTI’s system hassuccessfully extended the life of bolt holes in metalstructures for over 25 years.
