Under $200? Probably not.

We did some research and we couldn't discover any portable a/c under $200.

But if you live in a dry climate (like Arizona), then you do not actually require a portable a/c.

Rather, you can make do with an evaporative cooler (also called a swamp cooler).

If it is dry heat, these units do an excellent job cooling you down.

If you stay in a damp part of the country, however, you're going to need to spring for a real ac system.

The least expensive we managed to find was $300 with the SPT 8,000 BTU Single Hose Portable AC.

A portable air conditioner includes a flexible hose that connects to a venting kit to direct hot air outdoors.

The hose is generally in between 5 and seven feet long so the unit can be located anywhere in the space without a requirement to be nearby to the window.
