    COMMEMORATING THE DEATH OF

ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI Saturday, October 3rd, 7:00 PM

This celebration is a prayer service with readings and songs that reflect the life off St. Francis and recall the events surrounding his death. Traditionally the Transitus is celebrated on October 3rd, the day before the Feast of St. Francis. Please join us for this uniquely Franciscan celebration on Saturday, October 3rd at 7:00 PM.

LIFE CHAIN: October 4th 6-7 PM LIFE CHAIN is a national peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for one hour praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. Please join Bishop Barbarito in a Life Chain on Respect Life Sunday, October 4th on Military Trail next to St. Ignatius from 6:00 to 7:00 pm (after 5pm mass). Stand with thousands of pro-life individuals throughout the USA and Canada in honor of millions of babies whose lives have been lost to abortion. Pray for people in crisis situations and for our nations. You'll be a light in a darkened world as you help put an end to abortion through prayer! Bring your whole family! How many versions of the New American Bible are there?

The original version of the New American Bible (NAB) was published in 1970. The translation of the New Testament was revised and published in 1986. The translation of the Book of Psalms (the Psalter) was revised in 1991. A revision of the translation of the Old Testament, including the Psalter, was published in March 2011. This version is called the New American Bible Revised Edition ("NABRE"). Besides the various editions of the translation, many different publishers have produced editions of the NAB. Each publisher has added material, such as photographs, maps, devotions and prayers, and reference matter to the biblical text.

THE ST. LUCIE KITCHEN NEEDS YOUR HELP The St. Lucie Soup Kitchen provides food to those who need it most. It is our opportunity to give through the Corporeal Works of Mercy. Due to current economics and the pandemic, the Soup Kitchen is operating at a deficit! Instead of hot meals served in the parish hall, hot meals are given out in the parking lot at noon on Thursdays. So far, we are handing out more than 300 meals each Thursday. The Kitchen survives solely on donations – your donations! You can help in the following ways:

    1) Provide monetary donations so that needed fooditems may be purchased. Make a check payable toSt. Lucie Catholic Church. Mark “Soup Kitchen” onmemo line on check.

    2) Provide needed canned goods (within date).3) Provide volunteer hours in preparing and serving

those in need.If you can help in any way, please contact Loretta Barnes at 878-1215. Remember, for every $25 or more donated, the office will provide you with a keepsake certificate that you may give as a gift (birthday, anniversary, death … to name a few).

The chains of habit are usually too small to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.

THE SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY (3 of 7)

The Spiritual Works of Mercy have long been a part of the Christian tradition, appearing in the works of theologians and spiritual writers throughout history. Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to “help our neighbor in their spiritual needs” (USCCA)

There are seven Spiritual Works of Mercy and over the next weeks we will touch on each of them. After each work of mercy there are also suggestions and words of advice for living them out in our daily lives. Some actions must wait until there is no longer the threat to the coronavirus.

ADMONISHING THE SINNER Do not judge but be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes. Together we can learn to walk more closely with Christ.

In humility we must strive to create a culture thatdoes not accept sin, while realizing that we all fall attimes.

Don’t judge, but guide others towards the path ofsalvation (see MT 7:1-2)

When you correct someone, don’t be arrogant. We areall in need of God’s loving correction.

We should journey together to a deeper understandingof our shared faith.

“Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; thenyou will see clearly to remove the splinter from yourbrother’s eye” (MT 7:5)

THE FLAME OF LOVE ROSARY Mary’s “Cause”, the Flame of Love Movement, is her call to save souls from the dangers of sin, which are so prevalent. The Flame of Love is an extra-ordinary grace which comes from Mary’s Immaculate Heart to us at this time in history. The Flame of Love is Jesus, Himself, who desires to empower faithful souls to combat the evils of sin, lukewarmness, and indifference. The Flame of Love Movement revives tepid souls enabling them to embrace: daily Mass and Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration Holy Hours, Fasting, forming Prayer Cenacles of Reparation and becoming part of a community devoted to spreading the Flame of Love. Every Thursday, all are welcome to pray this special rosary at 7:15 PM sharp in the church. Wear your mask and please, social distance!

Y si no, pregúntale a tu párroco.
