Our target is 70 for the program. 55 people have undertaken formal training in Senior First Aid, Manual Handling & Child Safe Environments. Welcome to our November Edition of the Yorke and Mid NorthDisability Workforce Hub Newsletter

Update From the Coordinator

We have had an outstanding month in upskilling and placing jobseekers into work in the DisAbility sector

I am now working with 58 jobseekers Our target is 70 for the program

55 people have undertaken formal training in Senior First Aid Manual Handling amp Child Safe

Environments

Referrals have come from MADEC (43) Sureway (8) Volunteers (4) Parents Next Program (1)

Community Development Program (1) Centrelink (1)

25 jobseekers have completed the highly regarded Harrison Assessment tool at no charge

22 have completed the NDIS Quality amp Safeguards Commission NDIS Worker Orientation Module

6 placements into work with lots more in progress

Good News stories abound where we have been able to link jobseekers and even their children

We have a trip to Point Pearce planned for 6th November with MADEC and Centrelink to help the

community access the services they are entitled to

I attended the NDS Speed Networking event in Adelaide on Tuesday 2nd October - Great insights

and contacts made

We have planned training for 5 jobseekers in Yorketown at MADEC on Harrison Screening tool

NDIS Worker Orientation Module and 17 undertaking Senior First Aid Training It is a great thing to

offer training in the more regionalised areas

Maitland Ardrossan Kadina Clare Yorketown Georgetown Terowie Peterborough and

Jamestown have all supplied jobseekers and working with rural and remote jobseekers has proved

to be very beneficial

15 jobseekers undertaking Manual Handling at MADEC in Port Pirie facilitated by the Skills to Support program from Regional

Development Australia Yorke and Mid North

collectively as a group overcome the unique challenges that the NDIS brings to achieve the best

Are You a Jobseeker Looking To Work in the DisAbility Care SectorFind out how the Skills to Support program can help you get a job

This project aims to address high levels of unemployed and under educated jobseekers in the region in a

sector that is facing significant workforce challenges and a growing demand for skilled workers

Program participants will be provided with a diverse range of skills experience and support across the

Disability and Community Care sector to help ensure the region has a pool of work ready people to meet

the current and future workforce needs

The program will also support local employers to identify and address their workforce development needs

and promote career and training pathways in the sector with a view to delivering employment outcomes

for interested job seekers

Objective

Grants SA is a one-off-project funding program that provides approximately $3 million in grants annually to

not-for-profit community organisations to improve community participation wellbeing and quality of life for

people living and working in South Australia

Key Priorities

The priority groups for Grants SA funding are

people andor communities experiencing disadvantage meaning those with less access to social

and economic opportunities

Grants SA is a one-off-project funding program that provides approximately $3 million in grants annually to

not-for-profit community organisations to improve community participation wellbeing and quality of life for

people living and working in South Australia

Key Priorities

The priority groups for Grants SA funding are

and economic opportunities

This project aims to address high levels of unemployed and under educated jobseekers in the region in a

sector that is facing significant workforce challenges and a growing demand for skilled workers

Program participants will be provided with a diverse range of skills experience and support across the

Disability and Community Care sector to help ensure the region has a pool of work ready people to meet

the current and future workforce needs

The program will also support local employers to identify and address their workforce development needs

and promote career and training pathways in the sector with a view to delivering employment outcomes

for interested job seekers

Minister for the NDIS Stuart Robert today released the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Design Standard - landmark guidelines that will spur a new era of housing construction and enhancement

for Australians with disability The SDA Design Standard will guide architects builders and the community

as they look for new and better ways to build specialist housing for people with disability Full media
