    CLIMATE

    Bar is the largest city, municipality and port on the coast of Montenegro. It is a modern city with wide boulevards, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation. It represents the biggest touristic and nautical center at the entrance to the Adriatic Sea.The city of Bar is situated at the latitude of 42°05’ and the longitude of 19°06’ while its elevation is 4m.Bar covers a surface area of 633 km2. Population 42 368 (census 2011).The Port of Bar is located at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea, at a distance of 976 nautical miles (nm) from the Suez Canal and 1190 nm to Gibraltar. It has significant competitive advantages over the Northern Adriatic ports, shortening the transit-time and creating savings in the cost of maritime transport. It is integrated with the Belgrade-Bar railway and the road traffic network. The Port is an important link in the intermodal transport chain.

    The climate in Bar is very specific. Besides being one of the sunniest places in Southern Europe, with an average of 270 sunny days during the year, the climate is characterized by warm summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is 16 degrees Celsius. In July the average temperature is 23 degrees C, and in January of 10 degrees C.

    Besides being Montenegro’s main seaport, Bar and its surroundings are also a major tourist destination. The entire area around Bar is mostly untouched nature, and is rich in vegetation. This entire area is suitable for leisure activities and hiking. Smaller settlements near Bar, such as Dobra Voda, Sutomore and Čanj, are favourite destination for sunbathing, as they incorporate long sandy beaches. There are two marinas, one in the Port of Bar and second is city marina. Mooring place for bigger yachts are located in the northern part of the marina and the depth is decreasing towards the end of the marina from 6 to 2 meters.

    In Bar, cultures meet and seem to mix in breathtaking ways. In the intervening thousands of years since being settled during Neolithic times, Bar has continued to grow while maintaining ancient monuments to the many cultures that left their imprint on Bar. In a nutshell, Bar is an important destination for travelers looking to taste all that Montenegro has to offer in a single, magnificent place. The old town of Bar, Haj Nehaj Fortress, with the remnants from the 15th century fortress and the castle of King Nikola, represent the historic and cultural monuments of this town. There’s an olive tree that is more than 2000 years old and Skadar lake, with one of the biggest habitats of birds, as well as a large number of monasteries and churches for the visitors who enjoy this type of tourism.
