Switch it up!To help you stay motivated, try to exercise with a bit of variety. If you usually go for a long run each morning, try doing some interval training instead. Alternatively, shake things up entirely by swapping your run for a sports game or energetic dance class.

Make it socialPlaying sport or exercising with a friend is a great way to make your workout seem less like a chore. Encourage a friend to go with you on a run, attend a weekly fitness class with you or just accompany you on a lunchtime walk.

Change the venueTo make your workouts more fun, try switching up the location. Make the most of sunny days: go hiking, go for a run through the local park or do a spot of yoga

in your back garden. For lazy days, you could even do your workouts in front of the TV.

Find an exercise you loveWhile you might think that exercise is not something you would ever enjoy, this is probably because you haven’t tried the right type of exercise yet. With such a wide variety of sports, fitness classes and workouts available, there is bound to be something out there for all of us.

Treat yourselfWho doesn’t love treating themselves to something new? Add some fun to your fitness by purchasing a new item of clothing, piece of kit or gadget that you just can’t wait to try.

Relive your childhoodRemember how effortless staying active

No matter how much you love your favourite fitness class, exercise DVD or running route, doing the same thing over

and over is bound to get boring after a while.

used to be when you were a kid? Happily, in the last few years gyms and health clubs have latched on to this concept and brought out a range of fitness classes that feel more like reliving your childhood games than working out. Some such classes include hula hooping and ballet-inspired workouts.

Exercise to your favourite musicTo make your workouts more enjoyable, try putting together an exercise playlist of your favourite songs. Not only can music boost your mood, it is also a great way to boost your motivation and can provide distraction and entertainment while you exercise.

truly shows how much you appreciate all that these individuals have done for you child. I suggest using your creativity.

Break Out The Tissues, Nick Jonas Dishes On The “Necessary” JoBros

Break UpLooks like the Jonas Brothers have no plans to reunite as a band and make new music any time soon…

In his latest interview with HungerTV, Nick Jonas — the JoBro, had this to say, when asked about the

difficulty of leaving the band: “It was a real necessity to close that chapter in order to have a healthy relationship as a

family. Things had become strained in a way. We made the decision to be a family first and to prioritise that. That meant

closing the group but we knew it would be OK because we knew we would be strong as a family…”

While the break up of one of the greatest boy bands to ever exist in the history of ever is still a sad thought, at least Nick’s career has really taken off in recent months. He’s literally become a huge internet sensation, and although his chiseled muscles probably have something to do with that, his new solo music is still really, really good.

“…I had this music in my heart that I wanted to write and I was just really fortunate to be able to do it,” said Nick about finally being able to focus on his own material for his upcoming, self-titled album.

20-year-old singer. Sure, he was arrested (twice) and got

in a couple altercations with other celebrities (like Orlando

know). That is, until now…

According to the “As Long As You Love Me” crooner, he

caused damage to a part of himself that is absolutely

Herbie CarnivalThe long-awaited Herbie Carnival took place at the Herbert Hurd sportsgrounds on Saturday 25 October. In spite of predictions, the rain held off and the Carnival was an unqualified success. Here, children queue for a turn on the climbing wall – one of a number of giant inflatables set up on the grounds.

Chloe van Rooyen, Tshedi Moeng and Darian Engelbrecht pose next to the herb garden they designed and created out of recycled materials. These three Herbert Hurd pupils participated in a competition held at Builders Warehouse last month. The purpose of the competition was to encourage local primary school pupils become more environmentally aware.

Happy crowds enjoying all the attractions on offer at the Carnival.

Pony rides proved popular among the younger children.

Theodor Herzl School’s focus on compassion has been put into meaningful action many times this year, with pupils from grades 000 to matric all reaching out to help others in one way or another. Theodor High School’s Interact forum ended off their year recently with a very special outing to the Modecia Orphanage in Greenbushes. Together with the Service Forum, a substantial collection

of food, as well as much needed new shoes and an iron were handed over to Ma Beauty. The students spent the afternoon playing and having a party with the children, as well as decorating one of the walls with handprints and inspirational quotes. All of our members were so touched by Ma Beauty, an amazing woman who shows such love and dedication to all her children.

Drama-tists excel COMPASSION IN ACTIONAfter three years of studying Drama, Theodor Herzl High School’s 2014 class had a triumphant final Practical Examination in October.

Huge congratulations on their 93.3% class average!

Matriekvaarwel 22 Oktober 2014It’s hard to say goodbye at any time or any place. I don’t know how you say goodbye to whom and what you love. Ek glo al die hoogtepunte van jou graad 12 jaar sal jou altyd bybly. Soos ons na die einde toe gekom het, het die uitdagings al hoe groter geword. Soveel belangrike besluite moes jy neem. Waar en wat gaan ek studeer? Of gaan ek werk? Voor jy egter daarby kom, moet jy nou fokus op jou eindeksamen en ‘n sukses daarvan maak. You still have mountains to climb, obstacles to overcome. You can never stop striving, life’s challenges won’t get easier – they’ll just become trickier. Ons dank God day Hy julle oor ons pad gebring het. – C. Syce
