Welcome to Carrera Cup Great Britain

The Porsche Carrera Cup GB is at the very pinnacle of British motor racing. Stunning cars, top teams and drivers and unrivalled back up from Porsche Cars GB makes the Carrera Cup the obvious choice for teams and drivers seeking a su-perb racing platform for 2010. The new season will be the eighth year of Carrera Cup in Britain, mod-elled on Porsche's long-established world-wide Carrera Cup concept. Equal cars, close and exciting rac-ing and first-class facilities for

teams and drivers all add to the strength of the championship. The Carrera Cup GB continues to be a prime support race to the British Touring Car Championship, which guarantees bumper race day crowds and first-class TV coverage. The successful Professional-Amateur 1 category ensures that the less-experienced and non-professional racers can compete for their own points, prize money and podiums within the overall championship.

What is the Carrera Cup GB?

The 2010 format will again offer the Professional-Amateur 2 cate-gory for pre-2008 GT3 Cup Cars. This category offers new drivers the chance to join the Carrera Cup GB for selected events and com-

pete for separate points and awards. After a superb Carrera Cup GB sea-

son in 2009, the stage is set for an

even better year in 2010.

911 GT3 Cup Car Specification

All competitors in the Carrera Cup GB Professional (Pro) and Pros-sional Amateur 1 (Pro-Am1) catego-ries race technically identical 997-model 911 GT3 Cup cars, produc-ing 420 bhp and weighing 1.150 kg. Few changes are possible to the car, which ensures that results are based on driver skill. All Pro-Am2 category divers will run pre MY2008 cars producing 400 bhp and weighing 1.140 kg. The 911 GT3 Cup (Type 997) is tailor-made for customers seeking high-profile motorsport with near-standard race vehicles. A major difference from the Type 996 predecessor is the removal of ABS.

This model marks a clear step to-wards a thoroughbred racing car. Equipped with a six-speed sequen-tial gearbox, changing gears under full throttle saves precious split seconds. All tyres used in the Carrera Cup GB are provided by series partner Michelin. Each competitor is al-lowed to use two sets of slick rac-ing tyres per race weekend, al-though the number of rain tyres is unlimited. Pre-heating and any type of chemical and mechanical treat-ment of the tyres is not allowed.

Welcome to Carrera Cup Great Britain

Technical stability, equal car performance, superb TV coverage and huge race day crowds are the key elements of the 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB, which is being unveiled at Snetterton this weekend (1/2 August). Building on the success of the 2009 sea-son, the Carrera Cup GB will offer teams and drivers high-profile GT racing with sta-ble technical regulations and perfect equal-ity across all the cars on the grid. The existing 2008 and 2009 model 911GT3 Cup cars will remain at the forefront of the championship, with absolutely no changes to the technical regulations. Similarly, the championship's sporting regulations will remain unchanged. The pro category will be for the professional and most experienced drivers, while pro-am1 will offer great competition for the less experienced drivers. Pro-am2 will again cater for drivers in pre '08 997-model 911GT3 Cup cars. Competitors in pro-

am1 and pro-am2 will compete for dedi-cated points, prize money and podiums. Meanwhile, the position of the Carrera Cup GB as a prime support race to the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship ensures an unrivalled programme of both live TV and highlights programmes as well as race weekend crowds in excess of 20,000 per event. Over the season, more than a quarter of a million spectators will see live action in the Carrera Cup GB, while the total annual TV audience is more than 10 million. For 2010, a total prize fund of £166,000 will be made available for the Carrera Cup GB, with significant amounts for the pro, pro-am1 and pro-am2 categories as well as the teams' championship. The overall champion could take away a total of £25,000 in prize money, including the £15,000 award at season's end, as well as a road-going Porsche 911 to use for a year.

"It is very important to give our teams and drivers a clear indication of stability in the regulations for 2010," said championship manager Marion Barnaby. "By making an early announcement about 2010 we are also giving as much support as possible to the teams and drivers that are considering joining the Carrera Cup. The prospects for next year already look very good indeed." The 2010 season will again feature 20 races at 10 events, with up to an hour of racing at each meeting. Exclusive testing will normally be on the Friday of the race weekend, giving a total of up to three and a half hours of track time for each meet-ing. As usual, the superb Carrera Cup race centre will be operational throughout race weekends for teams, drivers and their guests. To kick off the planning for 2010, an ex-clusive sampler session will be held at Silverstone in October when teams will be able to offer test runs to prospective com-petitors. July 31st, 2009

Welcome to Carrera Cup Great Britain

Team managers in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB have reacted with universal ap-proval of the plans for the 2010 champion-ship, which were unveiled at Snetterton over the weekend (1/2 August). The 2010 Carrera Cup GB will build on the success of 2009, with continuity of techni-cal regulations, a prime place on the BTCC support programme, firs t class television and the standard setting race centre. “The grids are very good and Porsche is doing the right thing to stay with the exist-ing cars,” said Simon Leonard of Red Line Racing. “It gives us continuity and stability for the future. We’ve already got interest from drivers new to the championship about 2010.” Stuart Parker of Team Parker Racing ech-oed Leonard’s comments. “We’re all in a very testing economic environment so to stay with the same cars makes a lot of sense,” said Parker. “It’s a very logical

decision and I’m very pleased. We plan to be back next year with a full complement of cars.” David Bartrum of Motorbase Performance said that business stability was very impor-tant for the teams. “The continuity is excel-lent for the business,” said Bartrum. “We can maintain and build on what we’ve got and we have already had a lot of interest for 2010. The Carrera Cup GB is now one of the best race series in the country.” Managers of other key teams confirmed their intention to continue with the Carrera Cup GB in 2010. “This year is putting us on the map in the Carrera Cup and we’d like to expand the team to three cars next year,” said Paul Leach of JHR. Celtic Mo-torsport also plans to continue with a ma-jor presence. “We’re very happy with the early announcement about next season,” said Celtic’s Alan Keith. “I’m already 99% sure we’ll have two cars and probably three.”

Meanwhile, two teams that are mounting limited programmes in 2009 intend to increase their commitment for 2010. “We’re going to come back to the Carrera Cup fulltime in 2010; probably with two cars,” said Nick Dudfield of IN2Racing. The same applies to Team JMH. “We’re looking to be more regularly involved next year,” said team boss Jason Hughes. “As a team we’d like to run two cars in 2010.”
