Motivation

Firstly, I want to highlight my compromise and illusion for being able to work and make workshops in a studioin order to discover the real perspective of the profession. I am person with an enormous initiative that neverconforms to simple and vulgar solutions. As example is that when I had the opportunity, I have tried to showmy talent in international architect competitions, even being alone during my stay time in Germany, being ableto develop a project until the end.

Even with a little experience in architect studios, I believe that I can contribute with a strong energy in and I willget used to the way of work, what I had done before in a different country with a different language inGermany during one year. I am sure that I will give illusion and creativity, trying to do my best.

Projects.MASTER THESIS. INUIT COMMUNITY.

Introduction:There were three kinds of final Project proposed in theschool of Toledo, one is the construction of a InuitCommunity in the Arctic ( specifically in Resolute Bay).

After a destructive storm, the Community of ResoluteBay ( in Cornwallis Island , Nunavut, Canada) has beencompletely destroyed. It is necessary to rebuilt a newcommunity of 100 people approx. along the summertime, when the sun still warm the permafrost. Spacesfor the refuge, leisure, sports, meeting, healthprotection and communications are requested.

How the new architecture has to respect and coexistwith the mysterious Inuit culture or How the newconstruction system adapt to the inclement weatherare basic goals to solve, but hurry up, they need aquick response.

Values:To develop a construction system of easy assembly, transport and minimal cost which enables:

• A community social atmosphere.

•• Enable a social system. How the society

organize itself and cooperate together for

the maintenance and development.

•• To develop a productive fabric system.

• To adopt a efficient energy system.

• To use the raw material around.

• To consider the weather changes that happens

along the year.

• To consider the maintenance of the permafrost.

• To Reduce to the minimum the living spaces.

• To use the newest material and constructive

system for the insulation.

• To assure the insulation between the building and

the soil.

Analysis of which place should be the place:Analysis between different places in Cornwallis Island and thesurrounding area. I have chosen 6 different`places where thecommunity can be possible attending to different importantvalues.

The selection process of the place has been determined bydifferent parameters and conditions that allow the life incommunity in the extreme regions.

• Look for a Mountain or topography that decrease alongthe South direction, giving a background to the Northwhere the cold winds come.

• Look for a place next to rivers or lakes that can provideswater and food.

• Look for a place close to the sea that give a basic supportand connection with the world.

• Look for a good solar orientation, looking for the south,East and West for the sunlight.

• Look for a good location in contact with the importantroute Chart lines.

Comparison between two of the (1 and 2):Let's compare the two location taking care differentsparameters related with the characteristics of each space. Theseterms speak about how the space is in the place and how thisspace is in relation with the context.

Both places have a good North protection with mountains andhills in the back.

Looking for a site that have a high topography in the North sidewas difficult discover a plane bay without water or floodproblems. In the first case ( 1 ) exists too many lakes that canprovoke problems with the insect proliferation.

The orientation is depending on the surrounded mountainsbecause both places are oriented to the south.

The perspective change due to the number and nearness ofhighlands and the size of the bay space.

Projects.COMPETITION. REDSAND.

Introduction:Astronomy Center Redsand is a competition editedand created by ReThinking team, that was a initiativeof "estudio Heliopausa". The competition began onJanuary 12, 2015, and was finished on March 30, 2015.

By this time I was in my Erasmus year studying inNürnberg ( Germany), and I took the decision toparticipate alone from there. The competition wasfocused for architects and student of architecture sothat was perfect for training myself in the task of theprofessional works.

Projects.COMPETITION. REDSAND.

Introduction:Each tower was built off a reinforced concrete base of‘Oxford picture frame’ design. Four hollow reinforcedconcrete legs of 3’ diameter supported the 36’ x 36’ steel houseof two floors, with the military equipment installed on the topdeck.

Each fort comprised seven towers linked by tubular steelcatwalks. In addition to the Mersey forts, three forts of similarconstruction were built in the Thames estuary, between May andDecember, 1943. They were known as the Nore, Redsand andShivering sands Army Forts.

The towers were raised for defending London an the Uk shoreof the German ships and submarines.

The project should be taken as an opportunity to experiment onspace unlimitation, loss of visual references in landscape, theabsence of walkable earth as we understand it, fightingclaustrophobia and confinement of its inhabitants. Anopportunity also to propose alternatives to growth an territorialforms of consumption that have led many countries to thedeepest economic crisis. The reTHINKING team raises therehabilitation, restoration and revival of Redsand military forts inthe Maunsell Sea, England.

Since these buildings are away from any town, in the middle ofthe sea, it seems appropriate implementing a place of study ofthe stars: the isolation of these fortifications makes the visibilityof the night sky perfect.

Site:The Sea Forts are in the Maunsell Sea, approximately 8miles away from the nearest British coast.The coordinates are:Latitude: 51 ° 28’6.00 “NLongitude: 0 ° 59’6.00 “E

Program:The program to develop will be an Astronomy Center that willhave an observatory, a planetarium, an agora, conference room, workshops and provision of accommodation for between 30and 50 people. For accommodation it is required to havekitchen, dining room and common areas, besides the rooms andbathrooms (individual or collective).

Concept:The towers are alone in the sea and separate betweenthem. The lines of communications determine theambient and the atmosphere. Tours are not free, theyare strongly marked because everything around iswater.

Therefore I resolve to continue this idea and create anew project based in two strong directions, whichcommunicates my new project with the currentintegration.

The news buildings appear in the endings of thesecruise lines, which connect again with another twomore “parallel” corridors. These longs corridors andthe building are supported by four big arches thatrise in the four corners.

Basically the entire project is supported by four bigconcrete supports.

The current towers have been adapted for the newsuses. Due to the communications network, there aremore privacy and more public spaces and buildings. The news four buildings are observed old towers andas the same time are watching the skyline. Thecorridors are not simple passes spaces. Theexperiences of walk along them is necessary tounderstand before came to each new building.

The concrete arches cross and break some facades ofthe towers. Before, the used the bridges was forpassing from one tower to the another one, now thebridge contains the line of communications and thebuilding at the same time.

The fresh building emerge between two bridges, giving equilibrium and rigidity. Again all thecommunications lines go to the control tower, becoming in the central point of the entire project(the old and the new). From there originated thedifferent activities and uses which are normal inAstronomy Centre.

Projects.REHABILITATION. TOLEDO

Introduction:During October 2015, the Spanish Department ofNational Development with the school of architectureof Toledo made a Rehabilitation course focused in areligious convent located in the Historic City of Toledo. This course was called "Piedra sobre Piedra" (Stoneon stone), and it was made along intensive work week.

Objective:The main goal is to propose a rehabilitation projectwhich should be able to detect the some mainproblems that currently the convent suffers, and try tosolve in the best way, always bearing in mind theconnection with the city from the urban point of viewand from the general picture perspective that existsfrom the river.

Work:The workshop will work through teams. This work hasbeen done by three persons.• Rodrigo• Elena• Rafael

Location in the City:The convent of the Franciscan Conception is located in theextreme of the East side next to river in the historical city ofToledo. The North and East sides make a cliff becoming a physiclimit with the rest of the city. From this privileged place we cannotice how much beautiful is the riverfront in Toledo and howhigh is located the historic City.

Location inside the City:As we show, the set has just two sides that touch with the rest ofthe physic city ( buildings and urban places). In the West sidethere is an important wall separating and supporting the SantaCruz Museum with the convent. Therefore we can assume as aother physic limit for the set. Is just in the South facade wherethe building is directly connected with the urban space. Herethere is a small square that connect in two points with thestreets that go up to the main old market square (Zocodover).

Projects.REHABILITATION. TOLEDO

Current Situation:The convent is composed by numerous parts attending to thepassing of the time. Therefore the uses and building has beenadapted to the different needs.

The first church was located what is now the main entrance ofthe convent. After years this changed going to the right andletting a free space, separating some shrines from the currentchurch. Next to the church emerge the big and amazing cloisterwhere the old friars lived, but nowadays there are not friars dueto this change along the history.

On the left part is where the free natural space develop alongthe entire section, being at the final the communal orchardwhere food and vegetables grow up until now. This place has aspecial atmosphere because is a completely private and free ofbuilding space surrounded by wall where we can forget wherewe are.

Projects.REHABILITATION. TOLEDO

Project:Firstly we were interested on putting all the convent usestogether in a specific place, getting the rest of the space for thecity and the citizens. From this point of view the task was toknow what buildings and parts we wanted to reserve for thereligious use and which places should be open for the publicactivity. The first proposition was to accumulate the convent usefor the most typical buildings for this propose, the old cloisterand the church, and let the back and the left space as a part ofthe city for a free space.

But we realised that the public space remain as a inaccessiblespace, disconnected with the city. Also the most beautiful part ofthe set was the garden that is at the final, and the most usedplaces where the nuns live is the edifice that is close to this. Therefore we decide to keep the convent space for the spacethat currently are really using daily, and let the old and historicconvent ( with the cloister and church ) for the citizens alwayskeeping the pass to the church in specific moments for the nuns.

In this new area we propose new alternative activities. Forexample we think in a museum activity in the current church, andsecond hand market, with workshop and expositions one dayper week/month in the cloister and the building surrounded.

So our main work was to rehabilitate the building where thenuns will live, close to the garden. To build a new convent with acloister exploiting the shape of the edifice. It is remarkable tosay that thirty years ago this building was used as a primaryschool in the three first floors, and the attic is where the nunsare living right now.15 30

Projects.AG Project 1. Nürnberg. Auf AG. Campus_2030.

Introduction:The AG Project was a special idea competition thatwas commissioned to the Technische HochschuleGeorg Simon Ohm, in Nürnberg where I was studyingduring one year. That was in a project workshop wayalong the first semester at the beginning, but thestudents could choose to develop along the secondsemester as well, this what I finally did so I will explainthe project in two different parts.

AG is a very important company in Germany, wherehave a lot of groups of industries. As sometimehappens this set of industries get included inside thecity due to the growth so they have to move andremake in other outskirts or suburbs. Some years agoin Nürnberg the AG company decided to move andchange the place, giving to the city the gift and theresponsibility of exploiting a new area which caninclude the spaces and uses that the city was needingyears ago.

In the first semester we were studying and analysingthe set of building that currently exists during the firsttwo months. Also we could travel to Switzerland andItaly for visiting examples of rehabilitation andintegration of industrial areas in different contexts.

Secondly we began to propose different ideas forreintegrate the project with the city.

Objective:In this area was proposed to develop a program whichinclude spaces for new parts of the TH Hochschuleuniversity and the Technic Institute, apartment areaand leisure spaces. Of course always bearing in mindthe current connection with the city and the actualindustrial buildings.

Work:The workshop worked in groups. Each group hadaround five persons collaborating for a propose of oneproject.

Persons: Felix Bayern, Amelie Foster, Ames Kader,Diana Sanchez and Rodrigo Domínguez.

InteriorIn the current situation we can divide the integration in threedifferent parts separated by the two streets that cross theproject from East to West giving three parts. The first one(the nearest to Fürth Street ) is a real road, and the secondone is a subtle pathway that make different the spacesbetween and connect the other integrations that are to bothsides of the AG group.

In the middle of the set emerge some residential areas thatchange completely the panorama of a industrial view.Theses houses are in the centre of the project and we had torespect the actual buildings and uses.

The buildings are distributed in blocks sometimes separatedor connected, letting free spaces and squares for parking andloading and unloading.

GrowthThe industry was growing from the South-East side to theNorth-West, getting space as they needed. Finally the edifices were surrounding the residential areacreating a big urban square in the middle long away fromthe industries.

ProjectWe were focusing how the city of Nürnberg hasgrown around our area of actuation, and we realisethat most common way was the block structure. Wewanted to make a system according with the actualway of growth of the city. Also the blocks thatalready exists allow this actuation due to most ofthem have been joined together.

So what we propose is following the block structure, try to utilize the actual blocks joined and getting toclose for the actual buildings. For the new buildingswe create new blocks attending to the programneeds and always trying to get new social andcommon public green areas for the new community. These green area are emerging alon we walk fromthe South to the North, being separated with thetwo road that exists before, reinforcing for pluggingand integrating with the context.

ProjectThe new floor plan include so many different uses, being thecentral building where all the more public activities are. Aroundit more green areas appear in both sides.

The seminar rooms and the housing blocks are mixed along thefront river, getting a mix of activities and uses. Along we walktowards the river the high of the edifices decrease letting aperfect view of the skyline for each block.

In the right side offices blocks and space for the artistic activitieshas been built, always respecting the inclusion of the green andleisure areas. For this task we have played with theblocks´shapes.

On the East side are the blocks for offices and university spaces.

Main Building.

The last goal of the project was to develop in acomplete way and form the main building which wasdesignated for the university.

We determine on choosing a edifice that woud be nextto Fürth Street in order to attract the activity andpeople movement inside. Absorbing two big industrialbuildings we proposed a huge building that contain allthe activities and spaces related with the university andlibrary.

The sunlight go inside through a patio system thatsometimes cross the entire section and most of thetimes cross it just some floors, letting a compositionaround these bright spaces.
