    Singing Out:

    No One Quite Like Me

    and Glad To Be Me

End of Key Stage 2 objectives:

    Demonstrate that they recognise

    their own self worth.

    Demonstrate respect and

    tolerance towards people

    different from themselves.

    Essential skills promoted in

    the session:

    Self-reection

    Decision making

    Active listening

    Communication

Begin by singingNo One Quite Like Me orGlad To Be MeSettling in:

Place a range of books/resources/foods/images in the centre of the circle.

Key Question:What stands out to you and why? Model: The pencil stands out to me because I am most relaxed

    and happy when sketching.

Give everyone the opportunity to share his or her own thoughts using an agreed sign that they are willing to share

    e.g. placing a hand in a giving gesture/showing a green card.

Key Question:What do we notice about the thoughts shared?

Stimulus:The differences highlighted in the settling in phase should be used to prompt a discussion about how else we differ/

how we feel about our differences/whether we ever hide our differences and why?

Provide conversation prompts for why our differences in thought and action are important and encourage discussion

    in pairs or small groups.

    Conversation prompts:

Challenge the groups to choose one statement that they agree is the most important and why. Share with the wider

group, scaffolding fair discussion and debate.

    Time for reection:

Introduce a country where freedom of thought/action/expression is inhibited and encourage the group to reect on

how this would impact on their daily lives.

    Positive conclusion:

End by reading aloud a poem of your choice, expressing why you like it and asking for the groups response,

    welcoming reasoned differences in opinion.

Continue the learning:Leave a notepad with an image or statement that prompts opinion/debate in it and welcome children tojot their thoughts around it in the next few days.

So that we stand out from the crowd.

    Otherwise life would be boring.

    It shows we are free.

    It leads to creativity.

It allows things that are wrong to

    be challenged.
