Popcorn Pop – JANET CHANNON This new collection of songs and activities for children aged 2-6 continues the Kids Music Company tradition of fun learning supported by with well researched benefits to learning for the whole child. The resource will be available for purchase but purchase is not essential. Moved By Music - MARIE WILLIS This is an introduction to the Dalcroze Eurhythmics Approach to Music Education; Developing the person as a musician and the musician as a person. Ukulele CAORLINE ZEEMAN Focus will be on the ukulele as an accompaniment to singing with easy strumming and simple picking techniques that can be used for various songs in early childhood. Ukulele in soundscapes to enable collaborative music making will be introduced. Freedom Formation Flight CLARE BATTERSBY Freedom, formation and flight paths will be our take off point into the creative possibilities for challenging exciting experiences that can be woven into the day and play of young children. Imagery, narrative and music inspired by birds and nature will be explored. Tap Tap Click Click Shake Shake Shake JUDI CRANSTON This practical workshop will include musical games and action songs, using instruments, tappers and bean bags. It also reinforces what children are learning when they are engaged in music making and how music profoundly affects our children’s brains. Hands On! JUDE BISHOP Puppets can literally be made out of anything! So, roll up your sleeves and plunge headlong into the incredible artistry of puppetry. Construct a finger, rod, shadow puppet. Develop some basic characterisation, manipulation and voice skills to bring your creations to life. Singing Games to build vocal confidence SHIRLEY HARVEY Many young children hear only recorded singing and need a live model and lots of repetition to develop basic singing skills and confidence. Games can provide such opportunities. Janet Channon with her business partner Wendy Jensen, set up Kids Music Company 25 years ago, providing classes for children and resources for teachers. She has extensive experience working with children in early childhood and leading workshops for teachers in NZ, Australia, Asia and the UK. Marie Willis is a music educator currently employed as a Music Therapist by the ‘Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust. She teaches Dalcroze Eurythmics from home one day a week and is keen to pass on the enormous benefits of engaging the whole person in music study. Caroline Zeeman runs three ukulele groups in Howick (“Ukes of Howick”) and teaches the ukulele at two local schools. She works on a weekly basis with young children from her music studio at home. Judi Cranston is an educator, musician and composer of children's music. She is also the founder of KindyRock, and has over 25 years experience teaching in New Zealand classrooms and in the community. Shirley Harvey is a primary school teacher who is passionate about singing with children. She has worked with adults and children in various early childhood settings. Jude Bishop is a trained primary teacher who has worked in theatre in education as a performer, puppeteer, designer and tutor. She currently works as a own Doctor at the Children's Starship Hospital.

Clare Battersby (aka fairyclare) is an early childhood teacher and has experience as a tertiary lecturer in dance and movement. She has recently returned from Seattle where she attended Anne Green Gilbert's Creative Dance Teacher Summer Intensive in Brain Compatible Movement and Dance.

Seiuli Luama Sauni lectures in the Faculty of Education, The University of Auckland. She has over 30 years teaching experience in music education from early childhood, through to Primary and Tertiary sectors. Luama is currently responsible for the delivery of a Pasifika Music, Dance, Drama and Visual Arts course using an integrated pedagogical approach for student teachers in the B.Ed Pasifika Early Childhood programme.

Workshops continued:

Pacific Performing Arts: An integrated approach to Music and Dance LUAMA SAUNI This workshop will focus on simple traditional and contemporary styles of music and dance from different islands of the Pacific. Links to curriculum documents, holistic development of the child and relevant Pacific resources will be included. It is hoped that teachers will gain confidence to implement an exciting integrated approach when teaching Pacific music and dance within their specific learning environments.
