Notetations Volume 24, Issue 2 January, 2019 Pop Music Icons by Lee Irwin Culbreth Spring is busting out all over. To celebrate spring this year the Woodbridge Community Choir will be featuring songs recorded by some of your favorite iconic POP soloist and group singers. Since it would be an impossibly long program to feature every artist 19 songs have been picked somewhat randomly. It is highly likely that at least one of these songs and perhaps many will be familiar to you. The iconic artists from a period spanning more than 50 years in the final selection include: ABBA, Adele, Aerosmith, Beach Boys, Boxcar Willie, Dionne Warwick, Eagles, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley, Jackson 5, Jerry Lee Lewis, Josh Groban, Katy Perry, Martina McBride, One Republic, Sam Cooke, Bob Seger, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Jennifer Warren & Bill Medley. Other artists may be included based on feature tryout results. In any event, plan to join us for the concerts that will be held the first Saturday, June 1 st at 8:00 p.m. and first Sunday, June 2 nd at 3:00 p.m. in the Dr. A. J. Ferlazzo Building Auditorium. Rehearsals as usual will be in the Lutheran Church of the Covenant (LCOC) beginning Monday, January 28 barring another crippling snow event. Christmas 2018

We hit it out of the park as they say in baseball. Our 52th Anniversary Christmas Concert was remarkable. I do not believe anyone thought we could pull it off except for our great Musical Leadership Team. We performed a wonderful diverse selection of songs that were a delight to the choir and audience

alike. The concert was directed by our Resident Musical Director Lee Irwin Culbreth along with our Assistant Musical Director George Boyd. Of course we cannot forget our other Musical Leadership Team members which included Meredyth Stirling as our accompanist, percussionist Marie Juliano and on electric bass Alan Bonsall. These individuals helped the choir keep our rhythm and 95% of the right notes. The upcoming Spring Concert season we have the same Musical Leadership Team so I am sure we will a great season.

Thank you to the Musical Leadership Team

Registration Discount

The Woodbridge Community Choir Board of Directors wants to offer a way to reduce or even eliminate your registration fee and increase our membership. When you register and bring a new member for the Spring 2019 Concert Season your registration fee will be reduced by $10 per person up to $35. If you bring a new member after you register you can still receive a discount but it will be applied to the next concert season. A new member is anyone who has not sung for the past two concert seasons. So, bring your friends and neighbors to join.

Did you know that the WCC has a Facebook page? Well, we do!!! Please visit our Facebook page and like us.

Can you or someone you know play the piano? The WCC is looking for anyone who can assist with playing parts for sectionals, accompany small

groups or even selections within the concert. Please let Lee Irwin Culbreth or any Board member know and remember that such a contribution adds to our overall performance.

WCC is proud to be a true com-munity choir by adopting Benita Fitz-gerald Dr. and Dale Blvd. between Cloverdale and Benita Fitzgerald. The next road clean-up day will be scheduled in April. Details on exact date, meeting place and time to be determined.

Notetations

As in the past, the Spring season is more relaxed and not as formal as our Christmas season. There are no long skirts/dresses for the ladies or black vests and white tuxedo shirts for the gentlemen. Instead, men and women will wear black slacks/trousers that reach the top of your shoes. No leggings. Women will wear blouses with sleeves and men will wear business dress shirts. No polo shirts or T-shirts. Tops for both men and women will be solid color jewel tones (color examples as shown on the Woodbridge Community Choir web page.) No embroidery, embossing, patterns or pastels. Also, wear comfortable black shoes and black socks or stockings.

Snow Policy

As a reminder, no rehearsal will be held if Prince

William County Government is closed due to inclement weather. PWC closings are announced on

the County website at www.pwcgov.org; on local media;

via Facebook—www.facebbok.com/pwcgov; and via Twitter—www.twitter.com/pwcgov.

Spring Music Clean-Up!

Start your spring clean-up and help the Woodbridge Community Choir at the same time. Choirs can collect sheet music and have it sold on consignment. WCC did this several years ago and received a credit of more than $200. This is an easy fundraiser with nothing to buy. Simply deliver the sheet music to us that you no longer need. The music is delivered to the distributor in Pennsylvania and after it is sold WCC receives credit. Bring your sheet music and drop it off at the check-in desk. We will be collecting music through March 2019.

The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the adjusted purchase price, to the Woodbridge Community Choir, from your eligible AmazonSmile purchases. See the complete AmazonSmile program for additional information. Thank you.
