Today, an estimated one third of all children have some type of reading problem.
• Lack of focus• Dyslexia• Tracking deficiencies• ADD or ADHD• Fluency problems• Decoding inabilities• Poor comprehension
![Page 10: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Dr. Akihiro Kawamura(developed and patented the brain enhancement technology in the
eyeQ program)
• Ph.D in education
• 25 years experience training and testing
• Over 2 million have used his program
• Authored or co-authored 92 books on the brain, learning, and speed-reading
• Received “The Emperor’s Award” in Japan for his contribution to the education and culture of the people of Japan
![Page 11: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Subvocalization• We all learned to read and say
one word at a time.
• Most of us still read the same way, reading and saying
one word at a time!
![Page 12: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
The eyeQ program helps eliminate “subvocalization” by teaching us to
read multiple words at a time.
Subvocalization
![Page 13: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
When you learn to process three words at a time, instead of just one, you have
tripled your reading speed!
Subvocalization
![Page 14: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Series Processing:Compare to typing one letter at a time
Parallel Processing:Compare to scanning a document one page at a time
Processing
![Page 15: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Comprehension• Increased focus = increased comprehension
• After reading speed increases, focus on comprehension
• Improved vocabulary = better comprehension
• Using the: Preview, Read, Review method, substantially increases comprehension
• Repetition down neuro-pathways increases long-term memory
![Page 16: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)

Difference in the brain of novice readers & skilled
readers
![Page 18: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
English Language Learners
• To learn to read English, ELL students must first learn and understand English vocabulary
• High-speed imaging awakens the brain and assists in learning
• eyeQ activates the visual cortex, improving learning and memory
![Page 19: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Taking Timed Tests• Many students freeze when taking tests
due to stress and restricted blood flow.• Slow readers often run out of time and
guess on the last 20% or more of a test.• Poor readers must reread material
multiple times to understand the question.• Skilled readers have time to review
questions that they were unsure of.
![Page 20: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Auditory Processing Ability
• Dr. Kawamura found that students can only follow the teacher at the speed they read.
• If the teacher is speaking at 250 Words per Minute (WPM), and the student reads at 125 WPM, he/she only catches 50% of what the teacher says.
![Page 21: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Effective Reading Speed(ERS)
• ERS measures not only reading speed but also comprehension
• EyeQ tracks ERS whenever students take comprehension tests
• ERS should only be measured when beginning eyeQ and then after Session #8
![Page 22: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Improving Reading Effectiveness
• Preview the material (table of contents) to build the structure of what you are about to learn– Quickly read material for general understanding – Change headings into questions
• Read material for comprehensive understanding
• Review the material again the night before an exam
![Page 23: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
The Eye-Brain Connection
![Page 24: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Field of Vision• Measure your field of vision by holding
arms straight out in front of you, fingers together pointing upward.
• Move fingers slowly apart while looking straight between them
• When you cannot see both fingers with absolute clarity, you have exceeded your true field of vision
![Page 25: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
Benefits of Increasing Your “Field of Vision”
• Ability to see multiple words at a time, significantly improving reading speed
• Greater peripheral vision• Faster reaction time• Improvement in sports ability• Ability to scan material quickly when
searching the internet
![Page 26: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Music and Learning• Scientific studies show that certain
music can improve concentration• Music helps the student relax and
reduce stress• Improves the environment
for learning• Can actually assist in recall
of information
![Page 27: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
EyeQ Engages Multiple Senses
• Visual exercises
• Metronome clicking sound programs the brain to read at a consistent speed
• Tactile learning using the eye-brain imaging book
• Interactive games to awaken the right brain
![Page 28: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Right Brain / Left Brain• Right brain students tend to learn imaging
skills more easily
• Left brain students tend to focus on every detail, slowing the learning process
• The eyeQ program alternates exercises between the left and right brain to enhance whole brain learning
• Engaging the right brain enhances memory, focus, and creativity
![Page 29: Poo Rvs Skilled 061909](https://reader033.fdocuments.in/reader033/viewer/2022050815/53ffd19d8d7f724c088b48e6/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Brain Function• Plasticity of our brains• Brain exercises maintain healthy brains• Our brain’s constantly create new brain cells• Lack of cognitive brain activity results in brain
atrophy
Note: Watching TV is a passive brain activity
