Polystar Global Roaming Quality SolutionThe Global Roaming Quality (GRQ) project (within the GSMA) has defined a standard framework for monitoring end-to-end roaming quality of service. The framework consists of a set of KPIs for three different services (voice, SMS and data). The framework is created in order to make it possible for operators to sign Roaming SLAs between each other.
The Polystar OSIX GRQ solution provides reports and alarms based on quality degradation and volume deviations, in addition to many end-to-end monitoring capabilities between operators and their roaming partners.
The solution is an integrated system (probes & software applications) enabling easy roaming quality management. Our solution will help operators to increase efficiency and improve roaming profit margin at the same time.
Probes are placed on all the interconnect links, both traditional E1s and GRX (TCP/IP interconnect for Gn traffic). qGate will capture ISUP, MAP, and Gn traffic on those links and aggregate the data based on reference data (roaming parameters for the different roaming partners) and in accordance with the GRQ framework. The results are presented in a number of reports, all based on the specification from the GRQ framework.
The information presented is based upon live traffic and the operator is presented with a greater and more in-depth view of customer experience and service quality. This is a cost-effective solution that can also be expanded to national traffic. Due to the wealth of features and capabilities of our solution, it is possible to share the capital expenditure with other departments within the business who will also see benefit from the system.
Managers from CEO level to interconnect planning will gain access to various scheduled reports about roaming volumes and KPIs and profitability.
Engineering, Network Management Centres and Roaming Engineers will see increased visibility of service performance through the user-friendly interfaces for setting alarms and performing root-cause analysis. Furthermore, they can test new interconnect partners’ performance to ensure end-to-end service is kept to the highest possible standard.
“ Roaming represents 3% of voice traffic, 13% of revenue, and a full 35% of profit of GSM operators. ” CSBF, Charles River Associates

The qGate ReportThis report shows the roaming quality for the inbound roamers visiting the selected roaming partner.
Success ratios and timers are red-marked when they exceed the thresholds defined within the GRQ framework.
To generate the report the users select aggregation level, time interval, and roaming partner.
Key benefits ◦ One report showing all services
- Data - Voice - SMS
◦ Compare your roaming partners’ quality in one single report ◦ Both in- and outbound roaming quality ◦ On top of the GRQ framework the Polystar OSIX solution supports KPI trending over time
◦ Every call, SMS, and data session will be measured
