Polymer is fast gaining popularity in the industrial market, as its benefits are brought to light. There are many variant of polymers being used in different industry for variety of applications. In engineering field, its application is experiencing steady growth. As a leading amphibious excavator supplier, we have been relentlessly exploring and experimenting different materials to enhance our product further. For the track cleat of the pontoon undercarriage, we are offering a variant of very high strength polymer as an upgrade option. It is a very tough material with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. Customers can now opt for polymer track cleat to enhance the durability and extend the serviceable life of the undercarriage the track group. Our R&D has spent months on experimenting various grade of polymer material, and further 2 years of exhaustive field testing at various ground conditions, terrains, geographical regions, climates, etc. We are confidently and proudly introducing this new solution to once again lead the market through innovation. Properties of Polymer Polymer is not new to the industry, however, the unique molecular structure and mechanical and chemical properties is extremely suitable for pontoon undercarriage track cleat. The material has both mechanical and chemical properties advantages over traditional ferrous metal and aluminium track cleat used since decades ago. U-Clamp The amphibious excavator works in very brutal and adverse conditions you can possibly imagine. The photos below are typical examples of different site conditions that the machine is expected to carry out the extreme task with minimum downtime.

Field Testing Testing were conducted in both tropical and climate countries during summer and winter. Ground and terrains conditions spanning from swamp, mud, river, sandy ground, sea water.

Knowing the amphibious excavator will face tough challenge in various ground conditions, we have designed a 4-bolt U-clamp system to hold the cleat securely onto the caterpillar chain. The polymer cleat has recess channels preventing the clamp from lateral movement, greatly reduced the stress on the securing bolts. Every cleat will always in perfect alignment, and in turn keeping the track chain in alignment at the same. Other advantages of a U-clamp over a simple bolt-&-nut system not only provide a larger contact clamping surface, it also has a wider spread of stress over a greater surface area.

How is Polymer Compares to Aluminum ? Aluminum material is a stiff but not malleable, unlike polymer which is much more flexible and has high energy absorption characteristic. In practical comparison, if one amphibious excavator fitted with aluminum and the other with polymer cleat and both run over a hard object for instant a stone. The aluminum cleat could easily, bend, deform and eventually cracks once exceeding it yield strength. On the other hand, the polymer may still bend and flex at the instance when the machine is running over the hard object, however, it can retain it original shape much better than aluminum. The photos below show the deformation and cracking of aluminum track cleats of an amphibious excavator.

Warranty Polymer track cleat is back by 24-month or 2,400-hour warranty whichever comes first. We are confident that it will stand up to the harsh working condition in most applications regardless of geographical regions. The confidence is not just coming from the selection of the right material, but also the overall geometry and proven design. If we are confident, why should you not be!
