We just had our second class time to work on designing our polymer. We made a decision on what we wanted our polymer product to be.

There are a lot of pens and markers in school that we find that don't’ have caps it makes them dry out very quickly, which is a waste of money. Therefore, we want to make a polymer that can be turned into caps of pens and markers that had lost its original one.

The type of polymer we are going for is a kind of solid, like a play dough kind of texture; we also don’t want it to be too sticky. Gloop slime is the closest polymer to what we have in mind so we started working with gloop slime. However, the surface of the gloop feels like it’s wet when it is not.

So we tried altering the amount of liquid being put into the polymer.

We made 2 gloops, one with less water, one with less water and white glue but they were both still very sticky.

On the first day, we made another type of slime (goober) by using guar gum powder instead of borax solution so we thought made a comparison with the gloop and the goober, which one would have a dryer surface.

Unfortunately the guar gum didn’t work. Maybe next time we should try having a scoop of guar gum and then add a few milliliters of water and see what happens.
