THE WAGON TRAIN IS COMING
Take a step back in time…. The year is 1845 and you are among the pioneers of a Wagon Train made up
of 25 wagons making the journey from Missouri to California. You have endured the hardship of
crossing countless rivers and streams, rolling over endless prairies of waving grasses, and climbing and
descending elevations from sea level to towering heights over 7000 feet. You have wandered through
endless canyons only to cross another river, scale another mountain and circle the wagons after another
long and difficult day. Water and food are scarce and injury and sickness plague weary adults and
unhappy children.
The days have turned to weeks and the weeks into months and still the journey continues westward and
toward your hopes and dreams of tomorrow!
Suddenly…it is tomorrow! June 9th!! You have arrived safely at your destination in Pollock Pines,
California! “CALIFORNIA OR BUST” is now a reality!
The town folks have all come together to celebrate your arrival and safe passage across the country.
Today you will enjoy an entire day of rest, relaxation and fun. So dust off those dancing shoes and shake
out those shirts and skirts and get ready for an old fashioned ho‐down!!.
The Pollock Pines‐Camino Community Center is welcoming all the Wagon Train folks and the
surrounding community residents to come and join a day and evening of fun and merriment.
Start the day about noon at the east end of town (at Safeway) with the arrival of the Wagon Train and
be prepared for a possible old west outlaws vs. Marshals unlawful activity! Look for the ‘loot’ taken
from the lead wagon strong box to collect your reward at the Community Center.
From there, follow the wagons down Pony Express Trail to the ‘happenings’ at the Center! You will hear
and enjoy the arrival of the “train” provided by the Ranell Carpenter band welcoming the weary
travelers and visitors alike. Witness the ‘circling of the wagons’ for their overnights rest and check out
the many fun and exciting crafters and vendors as you wander the grounds. Stop and quench your
thirst at the outside Beer and Wine Garden while listening to the music of DD James, or settle down
within the cool walls of the saloon where you will find beer and margaritas while enjoying the music
entertainment by the Ranell Carpenter Band in the enclosed outside dining and dancing area. You will
also find Root Beer Floats and Shaved Ice vendors to satisfy your sweet tooth and turn frown to smiles
from your children!! There will be a great Kids area where children will enjoy pony rides to old
fashioned games like apple bobbing, watermelon and pie eating contests, ring toss, face painting, gold
panning and so much more to keep them fully entertained. The adults will also be entertained by the
antics and skits of the Hangtown Marshal arrests and ‘outlaws’ being tossed into the hoosegow and
headed to the gallows by the E Clampus Vitus protectors!! The Georgetown Regulators will be there to
protect the innocent and keep the peace on the streets of Pollock Pines Central…. Be sure not to miss
the Opening Ceremony performed by the Pony Express Riders Association!!
And, food! Who can forget the food? Hamburgers & Hot Dogs served with chips and Nachos and Nacho
Supremes with all the fixins’ will be available in the Café for lunch. Dinner will be mouth‐watering BBQ
Baby Back Ribs served with corn‐bread muffins, Beans, Salad and dessert!! All served in the Café, hot
and at very reasonable prices!!
Live music will be provided all afternoon into early evening by The Ranell Carpenter Band. The evening music will be provided by the Southern Wings Band until 10pm for your listening and dancing pleasure.
We are looking to provide everyone with a memorable and fun day for the 68th Hwy 50 Wagon Train Days!
Come on out and enjoy a day and evening of old‐fashioned – down home FUN for the entire family!!
