POLISHED LOOK
THE RECENT MEDIA FASCINATION WITH FESTIVAL FASHION CERTAINLY HAS CHAMPIONED ITS FAIR SHARE OF CROP TOPS AND WIDE BRIM HATS. Thankfully, the runways tapped into the Summer of Love rather than Coachella for the season’s strongest bohemian looks. Witness the beautifully embroidered tiers on a patchwork dress at Valentino or Alberta Ferretti’s white gossamer gown that’s delicately stitched where it counts. At Etro, a label long known for it’s boho leanings, tribal patterns printed on raw silk feel primed for Haight-Ashbury in the ’60s, yet destined to outfit today’s haute bohème on the polo fields of Palm Springs. Such free-spirited patterns and stitch details are ideal for nail tips, as guest artist Ran Kowatari proves with her intricately hand painted takes on the trend. Keep your artwork one-dimensional using Gouache paint (Kowatari’s preferred medium for detail work) or build subtle depth by creating your pattern with a thick application of acrylic powder mixed with UV gel.
